Those who say it says it sounds different to another synth it’s all the same , a synth is a synth simple.

We indulge the inner child by buying all these audio toys , All these companies know this very well , im guilty of it !

DAWS like Logic have absolutly everything you need , apart from wave sysnthesis which I’m sure will come !

So everyone sell everything you got and stick with one synth that does the lot !

Okay, I take it you never owned any synth.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

These "is the Virus still usable/valid/modern..the virus is a hardware plugin etc etc" threads pop up every month somewhere. Most, if not all, of the time, it's from people who don't own one. The thing is, it has an unique sound that has still not been 100% replicated. Almost everyone that owns one, would agree. The effect sections are very good, I even use them to process audio. No, Serum does not blow it out of the water. That's plain laughable. The bottom line is, we see these type of questions with Serum, Sylenth, Spire, Prophets, Moogs etc etc. All instruments, hardware or software, are still fine if someone has a use for it, For the reason behind these questions, I'll leave that to be speculated about.

The fact that the base of the Virus is basically from 1995, and that people still talk about it speaks volumes about its quality. :)

Not to say that software tech isn't more advanced these days... I just very often have the impression that coders are great at what they're doing... but poor musicians in terms of having a ear for what sounds great. Not a general thing, but, some software instruments are simply still a bit "off", if you know what I mean.

I’ve owned a Virus A since they first came out. I don’t use it much, if at all. Even at the time, it didn’t sound that great compared to real analog synths. Of course, it has evolved significantly from the A to the TI2. But I think a lot of the hype surrounding it is more mythology and confirmation bias than any objective measure of quality.

Dunno. It has some kind of thing going for it for sure. Some sweet spot. Of course it's not comparable with analog synths, but, there are great sounding digital synths (like the Waldorf Q as well).

Out of interest: Why have you decided to hold on to your Virus A?

Are you talking about access to Corona virus? I've heard scientists on tv say it's going to become endemic, so yes the virus will live on.
