2 USB midi controllers connected to a Macbook that needs to control separate VST synths. Which DAW allows this setup? I need to jam together with a friend and at the same time record our sessions.

Most daws can handle that if you can put each controller on a different MIDI channel and then specify that channel as the track input in the DAW. You can usually change your controller’s channel via its accompanying software, or from setup on the controller itself.
Some DAWs make it even easier by allowing you to select track inputs by the name of the controller, so no MIDI channel changing needed.
