imrae have you ever used solder braid (or 'solder wick') to desolder? It often works better than a pump.

Ordered myself a couple of singing bowls for a me-to-me birthday gift. 5", 7" and 9" metal bowls. Gonna record me some drones, and some experiments like filling 'em with water, or maybe a marble.
Unfortunately I had to buy kinda blind, but these ones were fairly cheap. If things start opening up a bit again I'm hoping to go to a local shop and get one with a nice low tone if I can afford it. In the meantime I'm thinking it'd be fun to record at 192kHz, then change the sample rate to 48k in Audacity to shift the recording down two octaves.

"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Purple Rain is here...

The "lo-fi" part definitely overwhelms the "compressor" part, but it's a neat toy for sure. I discovered you can latch the Freeze effect by putting a book on it

5 more battery powered clip-on LED gooseneck spots, from China (AliExpress). Arrived in 20 days, at less than half the price than the cheapest shop I could find (Bax). And they came with little USB-to-power cables, too!

Nice. I will get a tele one day. It’s next but one on my list after an Epiphone Casino (or Elitist if I’m flush)

I'm done for now with my pedal board.
After a ridiculous amount of YouTube demo-watching, I decided to go with Meris delay and reverb, The ottobit is just for me, to make things fun.
As I get more up to speed with workflow, I'm sure I'll revisit Midi integration, but the Midi Box4 should be good for now at least (until I kick off the training wheels... maybe this is all I need, maybe not).
I have a Moog expression pedal and I still haven't decided if I need to have it hooked up to more than one pedal yet. There's some decent options for switching pedals connected to the expression pedal, but I don't know how much switching I need yet so I'll wait before throwing more money at it.
I've got some screws (for customizing the board) and cables coming today, and then it should be time to make some noise!

exp wise for the otto.
you set controls in down position.
move up, set controls.
now it will fade between the two.
or you can just sweep the filter of course.
similar on the other meris too, fade between two presets kind of thing.
midi, ive not used, but looks a lot more programmable, obvs having more channels of control.
i should give it a go,i even have midi to jack cables now
and...
nice looking board!
plenty of power and fun! enough to keep you going creatively for a good while

I have a feeling I'll want the exp on all 3 Meris pedals the most. I've also left the Monterey on top for easy access to add expression there too. It'll work as a wah, but otherwise does autowah which I'm excited to have.vurt wrote: Wed Aug 26, 2020 2:56 pm exp wise for the otto.

Thank you guys for introducing me to this rabbit hole! Modular is of course next, but probably a couple years off. This should keep me busy until then.

FX Aid XL (the new 6HP version of FX Aid) arrived today. It's got plenty of FX that can be abused as weird resonators, plus some unusual reverbs... it's going to spare me from going after Desmodus Versio after all.
Most of the programs are very friendly with feedback, letting you get freaky without it exploding into an undifferentiated buzz like a Jomox T-Resonator.
The app that lets you customize programs is pretty brilliant -- generating a WAV file to update the firmware and an FX list in PDF format. Right now I've got 31 factory programs on it plus someone's Spin FV-1 oil can delay (which I'm probably going to modify a bit to allow for some more extreme ranges).
Despite the "XL" name, the knobs are still uncomfortably close together. 3 of them are D shaft and one is T18, but I'm told the Befaco micro knob caps fit them all anyway, so I've got some on the way.

Lovely board, elxsound!
Speaking of expression pedals, I own 2 types that have something going for them:
- EHX Dual Expression Pedal: it's dual! I use it with my WMD Geiger Counter (which has 2 expression inputs)
- M-Audio EX-P: cheap
