you're demoing it. while you're at it, i highly recommend getting DDMF PluginDoctor - this will tell you about cramping, phase response, aliasing, oversampling and many other things, so that you won't have to take others' word for it but would instead get it directly from the horse's mouth.
javahut wrote: Fri Aug 21, 2020 3:14 am I used to think the same thing about MAAT... I didn't trust that there was anything to their EQs over any other.
i remember people saying the same things about Barratt Audio Equavescent. best EQ ever (without MAAT's insane pricing, i might add!), patented algorithms, sounds better than everything else out there etc. - i don't see anyone using it any more. there's a reason people keep reverting to their favorites (Pro-Q3, EQuilibrium, Slate's Infinity EQ, CraveDSP EQ, ToneBoosters EQ4, etc.) - it's because no, they actually don't sound any worse than anything MAAT has put out (because it's simply impossible), and their workflow is far superior and has staying power with people, unlike the new "best EQ ever" flavor of the day.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I will definitely get plug-in doctor Or a similar functioning app to check all future purchases for BS. That’s maybe the best thing I’ve learned and will serve the best :)

I’ve read about it dozens of times but should’ve looked into it earlier, but I still value people’s opinion because some have demo’ed it extensively or have been long time users so they can shed some light on how their experience is. Like I totally get your point and it made me get my feet on earth because I’m a little bit sensitive to marketing and reviews sometimes. So it’s all good for thought and in the end I’ll either be happy I didn’t purchase it or I’ll be a happy customer of them.. who knows anyway I value any of y’all opinion and it has been a fun read. I think I’ll post my last findings after the demo and I’ll keep you guys updated whether I took the plunge or not since some (I believe) find it quite entertaining and it’s all good :)

Talk to you later KVR experts :tu:

damayor wrote: Thu Aug 20, 2020 6:24 pm I'm the minority here. I bought all their products. I actually live their eqs and they are great for mastering especially the orange. It's my mastering eq. I have crave, fabfilter and plenty other eqs. None sound like the orange. With every penny. Old tech idc it's about the math. I'm sure they cleaned up the code and enhanced it. It's great to me
What about blue I’m currently demo’ing it and apart from it’s price I quite like it, mostly because of its interface and clean subtractive behavior. What is your opinion on it. As a longer time user why is it/are they worth their every penny, what is the main advantages above other suggested eq’s?

I’m just liking all the discussion because it gives me food for thought while demo’ing myself. Input from long users seem to be missing here so I wanna know :)
I love the blue I use it on my tracks for vocals and it just sounds great 10/10 times. Red I haven't used much because how the mid side is implemented and the is either on my Master bus or just doing mastering after everything is done. Blue is definitely great they are worth the money to me. Idc about double blind test I know what works for me. Keep demoing and use it agressively before u buy because there's eqs are not cheap.

MAAT eq results can be replicated with any other eq. You only have to keep their "architectures" in mind which apply different Q-values for boosting/cutting. That was the one thing I got fooled by first. Also their "filter variations" is somewhat similar to the steepness/bandwidth in ProQ is. I remember to also explicitely needed to activate the oversampling in MAAT eqs to get matching results to ProQ or Toneboosters though their oversampling really adds a sharp filter at around 20khz. The MAAT eq blue default was matching ProQs zero latency and sometimes natural phase mode. The autogain is usable half of the time. I couldn't get it to really match loudness often but I also think an EQ doesn't need it. One thing I liked was the zoom in spectral ranges but then ProQ has a fullscreen mode which is even more useful. I noticed the latency with theEQblue is around 30 ms @44.1. Don't know where those come from as they're even present without oversampling. At least they got rid from the codemeter crap and halved the price.

I think you do not gain anything with MAAT but if you like their UI (and that's something subjective only you can decide and not us) then get them.

MAAT just seems to be out of sync with pricing these days. Like, way out. If they were priced similar to say DMG or Fabfilter, you could understand it but multiples of those just doesn't make sense. AFAIK, a lot of professional producers will use stock plugs for most of their mixing anyway and then use their favourite EQ/compressors etc for more targeted work as mixing progresses. Also, for the OP, someone touched on this earlier, what stage are you at in your production experience? I think some people jump into the deep end with mixing and trying to find the best '...'. Nothwithstanding that there is no best '...' of anything, in the first instance, you should concentrate your efforts on composing and arrangement and generally learning the basics, using stock plug-ins to learn about mixing as you go. Think of a rock band, say a four piece, back in the day, although equally I'm sure this still is much the case. They can all play instruments and one or two can sing but they generally can not all do each others jobs, and can't play each other's instruments. So they each have a particular job, playing an instrument or singing. One or two of them will write the songs, but not all of them as most of the time, members of a band are musicians, not writers. They'll go to a studio to record their songs and are mixed by producers with the help of studio engineers. All hugely experienced. The producer will do the post studio work too. Then the recordings are mastered usually by mastering specialists whose sole job is to master songs and albums. Every step in this chain requires huge specialised expertise and experience. We have the power and affordable tools now technically for one person to do all of those things. But practically? Well, it's a huge amount of experience and expertise to be concentrated in one person. A big ask!

It's thEQblue12 for me, which just simply works. The free update is awesome and just made it one of a kind. I'm a fan of a very subtle thing that makes a sound more lively while adding a bit more depth and 3Dness, this is in the right direction to my liking. Prefer it way more than the X-EQ 2 and very excited to see how they're going to develop this further. But even without FiDef, it's still my first choice for everything.

I get the feeling we have some MAAT employees in this thread?

The new "FiDef" nonsense has already been examined on another forum. Its literally just added pink noise to create a psychoacoustic dither style perception. Doesn't add anything valuable to the EQ. In this other forum the guys even found the literal .wav files of static pink noise contained in the installer.

Here is my advice to MAAT: stop trying to fool your potential customers by utilizing bad marketing and psychoacoustic tricks and introduce a more realistic, market-oriented price policy. Your products are not priced competitively, when superior (in sound, function and design) well renown EQs cost a fraction.

at 600€/plugin one would imagine they'd have money to at least hire a designer.
these things look like relics, there are FREE EQ's that look better and have more options. sheesh.

Hey Kazi7,

Other than myself, nope but considering the trolling and vitriol, might we conclude there other vested interests represented? I had not contributed here that I can remember anyway…

Well, no. Sorry, but it’s quite a bit more complicated than that. Those
“WAV files of static pink noise” are not pink noise though they are used as an input to the convolver.

Our customers, as well as FiDef’s not too shabby endorsers, seem to sharply disagree with you.

Here’s my advice: First, present a credible argument, then let other engineers use their own ears and experience to decide how to interpret your opinion. Basically, if you can’t afford something or don’t like it, then don’t purchase it. javahut summed it up quite nicely elsewhere in this thread;
javahut wrote:If you have to ask on a forum, IMO you'd definitely be wasting your time and money thinking about MAAT EQs at all.
In keeping with java’s username reference, I’ll add, “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”

i can afford them all, but why should i?

Hey damayor,

A future release of thEQred will have a re–worked M/S vs stereo workflow. We think you’ll like it…Basically, now it’s modal; either an instance is M/S or it’s stereo. You can’t have both in the same instance.

In future, you’ll be able to intermix M/S and stereo in the same instance, as with thEQblue and thEQorange. We had to rebuild the engine to achieve what we wanted but, so far, our testers are liking the improvement.
