It's not ugly at all, we just have a difference of opinion.

I have Zebra and I use it extensively. As a whole synth it might have more features than Fathom, though in my opinion it does not. I love Zebra, its a great synth, but more features? Don't think so. Specifically its oscillator definitely does not even come close to Fathom's Metamorphic.

OK, I propose a compromise.

I'll take back what I said and say legally, Fathom's Metamorphic Oscillator is ONE of the most advanced oscillators ever created.

Does that suffice.

You don't know me. I'm an engineer and I don't make bald claims without being pretty damn sure of them. I have used all the major synthesizers, certainly the most advanced ones like Omnisphere, Serum, Avenger, Spire, Dune, Diva. Some of them as whole may have more features than Fathom but in terms of the oscillator itself it is not even close. Please read this again. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Any of those synths have maybe one page on the oscillators and in some cases like Diva maybe two or three pages for the oscillator and a hand full of dials and NO wavedraw and NO wave Bezier.

Fathom's Metamorphic has 16 pages !

16 pages of parameters for one oscillator.

And this is not even taking into account that Fathom is the ONLY one that has a full screen manual wavedraw and Bezier wavedraw.

It's a bold claim because if you have used both oscillators it is not even close. It is like comparing an H&K MP5A5 to a Colt 38. It's not even a risky statement.

I did not say Fathoms oscillator was "Better" than the other oscillators. It is not better than Diva's oscillator or Dune's oscillator, definitely not better than Omnisphere's oscillator. I just said it had more parameters and was in that sense more advanced.

Second, those who are familiar with this thread in detail know that I CONSTANTLY, CONSTANTLY, CONSTANTLY, admit all Fathom's weakness, and there are many. I CONSTANTLY, CONSTANTLY, CONSTANTLY, in this thread talk about the actual sound quality of synths like Omnisphere, uHe Diva and DUNE 3 as actually having better sound than Fathom, especially DUNE 3. I CONSTANTLY, go to the community to tell me what sucks about Fathom and for the last four years I fix those things and improve them. This thread is a treasure trove of millions of Fathom's faults. But when I spend a 5 years programming something 16 hours a day and then another full year of full time development all on a SINGLE oscillator (YES READ THAT AGAIN PLEASE, A FULL YEAR OF SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ON JUST ONE OSCILLATOR) and it is released and I say it is the most advanced oscillator, especially given my CONSTANT honesty about Fathom's many faults, then you can rest assured and bet your life that I have damn good reason for making that claim.

Honestly, please go back and read the list I posted previously and tell me if you still think those other examples are even remotely in the same ballpark of control over the oscillator. I see you have been here a lot longer then me, so I respect your opinion, but its difficult to understand how this could even be a debatable question if you have actually used the new oscillator.

Just my opinion. You are entitled to yours of course.

And all that without using a teleprompter :hyper:

I look forward to assimilating knowledge of at least small portions of what Fathom offers, while greatly enjoying the new efficiencies, features, and sounds.

I also posted without using a teleprompter

@vurt well both 'bald' and 'bold' seems to be right :hihi:

@FathomSynth i never said Fathom is ugly. dont know where you got that from really :?

anyway i'll shut up now. i'm sure Fathom is a great synth and i wish you success with your synth.

Yes, Likewise, There is still respect. Just a difference of opinion.

Are there other audio examples of the Metamorphic Osc in action ? That may silence the naysayers. I only have Fathom Pro so don't have the Metamorphic Osc.

Good idea!

I just created a free Metamorphic Sample Pack.

You can load those into Fathom Mono, Fathom Pro, and obviously AVX and Vector.

Interesting. The Metamorphic code is part of Fathom Pro, but the oscillator is not an option when creating a preset from scratch. So what would prevent a person from loading a preset that already contains the metamorphic oscillator, saving it as a new preset and modifying that? I hope I am missing something.

mp3 is lightly modded Redbull and Vodka from the free Metamorphic pack. I bumped polyphony to six, played the low part as a held chord, and the high part as a glissand

Fathom is a little smarter than that.

If you have Mono or Pro you can load presets with the Metamorphic Oscillator and play them. You can also save that track to the host and when you load the project and it will still be there. This is so you can still make songs out of the presets.

However, if you try to save your own preset with a Metamorphic oscillator and you do not have a license it will not let you.

Also if you add a blank track it will not let you add the oscillator.

I did this so people loading presets are not hindered, however if I find out it is being abused or that people are just using the presets instead of buying Vector then of course I will remove it.

Glad to hear that. I had tried it with Fathom Pro 3. It actually did allow me to change the name, modify it and save it, but when I loaded it again, the metamorphic oscillator had disappeared. It was not even there when I loaded it in Vector.

I think this is similar to how some of the more sample-oriented synths usually have a free "player" version that has full playback but no or limited save features.

Yes, exactly, that was the idea.

I forgot to post this before.

Just checking: although "Intel AVX" has Intel as part of the brand name, AVX is also supported by modern AMD processors, right?
