Hi,
I'm noticing that of the 5 choices I can use to work with and select chords, 4 of them allow me to exit their pop-up dialogs via the Esc key, but the 5th (the Chord Selector) does not.

The chord selector is actually a dialog, which is completely different from the others, which essentially are pop up menus. From a programming perspective, you would not want to do that. A dialog really depends on the operating system for it's behavior. So, Apple and Windows behave differently in that regard.. (and to an extent Linux).. So, it's not a problem or a bug..

OK, cool, I grasp that distinction (I'm a programmer myself, BTW).
However, it is perfectly fine (and often desirable) for the Esc key to close a dialog.
Closing via Esc is almost always identical to using the Cancel button (assuming there is one).
In this case, there is no Cancel button, but mousing to the 'x' is in fact a cancel operation.
Thus, I maintain that it is logical, consistent, and efficient to allow Esc to serve the same purpose here.
5 out of 5 beats 4 out of 5, and avoiding an unnecessary sequence of moving and clicking the mouse is almost always to be desired.

FWIW, I believe I'm beginning to understand the relationship between phrases, the Phrase Editor, the voicing display at the Composition level, and the Phrase display at the Composition level.musicdevelopments wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2020 11:26 am
- Chord notes displayed as #1, #2, #3 instead of the old misleading Root, 3rd, 5th...
In my mind is a video I could make to perhaps explain and demonstrate this well.
However, this future video-to-be would be immediately and immensely clearer if the Phrase Editor, the voicing display at the Composition level, and the Phrase display at the Composition level could all (optionally) have their notes labeled (and colored?) identically.
The # numbers, the scale degrees, and the absolute note names all have information to convey, and I'm persuaded that both users and teachers of RC would substantially benefit if each (or any combination) of them could be displayed, identically, in all 3 of:
- the Phrase Editor
- the voicing display at the Composition level
- the Phrase display at the Composition level
The point here is that it would be quite possible to display in an immediately graspable way how a phrase dragged up/down takes on the notes of the chord and voicing that are in effect at any given point. Otherwise, we are left with the need to instruct the user "Now get out a magnifying glass and a ruler and prove to yourself by referring each to the piano keyboard on the left that the notes you see in the Phrase as you move it are always selected from the set of and correspond exactly with the notes shown in the voicing display for the current chord."
FWIW, I recommend doing this prior to the big 4.0 release so that we are in good position to create wiki, docs, and video to explain this to the coming new users.

Hello Attila!
When I press the T button during playback, the loop in the timeline moves to the location according to the selected phrase. Unfortunately, this stops the playback and cancels the loop. If possible, make sure that when you press the T button during playback, the cycle moves to the timeline without stopping the playback and disabling the cycle. Thank.

Awesome.. there still lies a problem and that is, the ESC key is the panic sounds off key..sj1 wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2020 11:36 pm OK, cool, I grasp that distinction (I'm a programmer myself, BTW).

Only if so assigned.BluGenes wrote: Sat Aug 29, 2020 12:10 pm Awesome.. there still lies a problem and that is, the ESC key is the panic sounds off key..
From Keyboard Shortcuts -> Workspace :
As for whether the Esc key, if so assigned, could perform both the Panic function and the dialog close function, I think it could from a technical POV, but I defer to Attila as to the realities in RC's case.
Personally, if necessary, I'd rather choose another Panic button key than have inconsistency in exiting sub-modes. YMMV
Obviously, I'm a proponent of consistency in basic operations. For me, and in general I think, inconsistency in basic operations breaks "Rapid".

Re: the display of Phrase Note parameters
Keeping within the current UI paradigm, these choices could be added to the existing menu (with a new divider line) to provide complete representational flexibility for comparisons, tutorials, etc.:
Show Note Parameters #1
Show Note Parameters #1 C3 (Root)
Show Note Parameters C3 (Root)
Show Note Parameters C3 (Root) #1
Note: The third of these would match the Voicing display. allowing A-A, B-B, etc. labeled comparisons. I think this would help to make the inversion-via-dragging system (and its relationship to Voicing) much clearer and and easier to talk, write, or video about.

click the structure browser, then double click the name to change it.. (works the same with parts/lines)sj1 wrote: Fri Aug 28, 2020 2:17 pm I notice the composition title will hightlight if I mouse over it:
RC - Title Highlight 01.jpg
However, clicking or dbl-clicking etc. has no effect.
I suggest that either clicking or dbl-clicking here pop up the dialog where the title can be edited:

Hi,
When I take a new 32 bar composition:
and cut it up using Alt-Click, I'm getting this:
All four resulting sections are labeled 'Part 1 Line 1'.
Am I mistaken in thinking that all structural sections are supposed to have a unique name/label (either via a differing Part # or Line #)?

BTW, nothing reproducible yet, but I was able to create both long hangs and ultimately a crash by playing around in the Chord Rules Editor (e.g. adding a new chord to an existing rule in a copied rule set).

Use the set up names from the structure browser. It will correct the names..

Sure does, and that operation is revertible on the History page too. Cool.BluGenes wrote: Tue Sep 01, 2020 1:31 pm Use the set up names from the structure browser. It will correct the names..
Thanks BluGenes!
