Dirt and Replika are missing? Otherwise seems like a pretty good update, even though i was already hoping for 5 to house more or less all upcoming stand alone effects where it made sense
And a new GUI at last! Let's hope it scales well

Nope Dirt is definitely there. Replika will be, too.

it's even worse than I imagined. looks like a quick hack job. they threw everything they had in there: mod pack, crush, comps, solid mix, reverbs, etc (so if you've already bought these in the past, you'll be paying for them twice), did a re-skin job for old GR stuff, want payment. after all the light years of anticipating and gossip, I can't stress this enough how meh this is.

three new amps don't excite me enough to shell out. maybe after they add more stuff later. but that means a long wait again. pass.

Post

None of that was a "quick hack job".

Wow nice... definetly a contender for my next (and one and only for my next computer build) multi effects rack!
Actually have been planning it to be Zebrify 2 (or 3, whatever it's going to be called), but i'm not so sure anymore!

And regarding the „just 3 new amps“
What if they are REALLY good? How many do you need to actually make music?
I'm not the biggest fan anymore, but NI have shown over and over again, that they can be at the very top of the game, if they only want

well, it definitely looks like it. they certainly took all the time in the world to release it, it's true, but I could only think if you gave Neural DSP all those years for development, what kind of an amp sim they would come up with.

this looks extremely underwhelming, I can't put it differently.

Post

Neural isn't even using the tech NI came up with here, which alone took several manyears to nail down.

Redoing the GUI from scratch is a very big lift, it's not something you can do in a few weeks, especially considering how many components are there in GR. So, if it looks like a quick hack job to you, not even sure what to say, because each and every part of the update took considerable dev time.

look, Drag, I know you are affiliated with NI in some ways, so relax. I forgive you your bias.

Post

It's not even bias, it's actually knowing how long things took (and why), rather than armchair guesstimating and completely missing the mark :)

To me this looks underwhelming. Period. Can you live with others having a different opinion? It's underwhelming to me. Deal with it.

Besides, after all the long wait, this could have been and should have been something really amazing. I mean, really outstanding and ground-breaking. This ain't it. To me. If it rocks your boat, fine, I have no problem with it. But to me this is a subpar job on upgrading one of the main amp sims out there (main in the past). It deserved better, we deserved better. This is what I think. Try not to spill your coffee again.

I don't even drink coffee. :P

Not when it's wrooooooong and when you have the facts. :D

Anyways, you should probably hold off your comments until you try the new amps and hear what ICM can do that old GR amps couldn't. And there will be more of them coming.

Post

look, Drag, I don't need you doing a pitch job and sell me NI product. I see what you're doing, some NI official will pat you on your back for it, but I know what I like and I know what I will pay for and for what I will not.

I'll demo it when it comes out, but if NI puts a heavy tag on this, nope from me. This is not something that deserves a heavy tag. This is incremental and deserves an upgrade price. We'll see about prices, I'm actually interested how NI will price this and upgrade too.

I was aware of Dirt of course

I for one am pleased that they haven't diverged too far from the original design, while adding the scalability, flexible effects and updated modelling that people have been asking for.

Not so keen on hand-waving about machine learning technology, I guess we'll see how that plays out. Probably it will lead to a drip-feed of add-on products to pad out Ultimate...
