Just discovered a new update of Studio one today and my problem with Rob Papen B.I.T is now solved under Windows 10 :)

Fun with General Midi files. I always like this Tower of Power song so I found the MIDI file and mixed it with VI's in Studio One.

Is there a trial version of Studio One? I've looke3 don their site but couldn't find one. I want to check out the new features for live performance but you don't get those in the free version.

While I'm at it, they offer cross-grades from other hosts, what sort of pricing do they offer for Cubase Pro owners?

The cross-grade looks for be $300 https://www.jrrshop.com/presonus-studio ... crossgrade but they also have this upgrade which includes an older cheaper version "producer" https://www.jrrshop.com/presonus-studio ... al-upgrade
It would be really great if you could find a really cheap Producer to upgrade with.

There is a full functional demo. You need to create a Presonus account and it will be somewhere in your account panel. Not sure why they make it so hard to find.

As for the crossgrade, cheaper buying a license off the market here. But you can find details here:

Is it just me or is Presonus's video guy, Gregor, a bit creepy? I was watching a few videos this morning and the combination of his voice and the way he looks at the camera totally creeped me out.

I agree about the "a bit creepy" thing. :) The vids are still great and informative. He just has a special way... which is a tad annoying for me too. But, you get used to it.

Guess those videos have to be served with some "WEEE" enthusiasm. It's all so exciting. And stuff.

Anyway, he seems like a nice fella. Just a bit creepy, hehe.

Yeah, he sort of is in a giant, thin, joyful spider way ;) :D

But he's the only - or one of very few - S1 people doing electronic music, so I find his perspective on things more familiar than that of Joe Glider's or Marcus Huyskens.

His kind of electronic music is much further removed from what I do than rock. All I want is to find out what tools are available and where they are, I can work everything else out on my own. I'll have a look at the Tim Talks stuff, see if he's any more useful to me. Thanks for the link.

Isn't that achieved by actually sitting down and exploring the application ? If you want to know something specifically which you don't know or can't find or didn't find during your trial, then why not post it on the forum... ? ( Edit: You've bought Studio One 5 as per the other thread I see) Because hoping to find specific information by watching hours of videos is really quite a futile way to go about that. You may find some dedicated Studio One youtubers just really annoying, I know I do :-D (I won't say who, so don't ask) to try and watch, or just really bad at it... If there's a question that can be answered by a video then I'm sure someone will post one. I've posted a lot of videos on Studio One from a raft of Studio One youtubers (the ones who are not annoying, I might add). You can find these on the lower half of the big Studio One thread of page 1 in addition to the new site I'm developing, you can find vie the links of my sig.

I actually watched about 20 of Gregor's videos last night, all 10 minutes or less (which is just about the limit of my attention span when it come to YT) and I got a lot out of it. Then I tried a couple of Tom (or is it Ted) Talks Audio vid's and they felt like a waste of time so I stopped.

What I find frustrating with Gregor's videos, though, is that his assumptions about what people do and do not know are very, very strange. He'll explain some basic concepts in absurd depth and then just assume you know how to do very specific things. e.g. Several times he says "I'll just duplicate this a few times" and you see his cursor skip along the track and all these copies seem to magically appear but he doesn't explain how that works and that is PRECISELY the kind of info I am looking for.

The problem with opening the application and trying to work it out for yourself is that you'll only ever work out how to do the things you already know to do. So, for example, all I'd learn is how much S1 is not like Orion or Cubase and how frustrating it is to try and use it the way I use those applications. OTOH, if you watch someone else work, someone who is a native S1 user, you (hopefully) learn how to use S1 in the most appropriate, efficient and productive way. I think that was a mistake I made with Bitwig - I just sat down and tried to work it out for myself and never got anywhere with it. It wasn't Orion, it was never going to work like Orion and I really couldn't see how else I might be able to work and get more out of it. I don't think I watched any video of anyone else using it, beyond the very basic stuff on their site at the time. OTOH, when we moved to Cubase, my bandmate kept feeding me links to some amazingly handy tips & tricks type videos and I found an excellent series of how-to vids on YT as well, which got me over that initial hump really easily.

He is using Mac only right? Or is he using Windows as well?

S1 is definitely better on Windows. I still have the Artist 4.6 version (with VST/ReWire support) and it is a problem free really. So maybe it has such problems in Mac, but I didn't notice something wrong with the audio, but I haven't done such extreme tests.

I use it sometimes because I'm better with it and Cubase than in Live still. I also still have ATOM which is very nice with S1. Great DAW really and very easy to pick up and be productive with :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
