This is simply not true. My GTX 1050, which was the cheapest card able to drive 4K monitor, only uses 0,7% of its computing power for desktop apps, such as Ableton.

And CPU doesn't have anything to do with resolution, if the software is implemented right ofc.

4K is no longer a novelty, it's a standard.

It's not really a standard until all software supports it properly, and this is far from reality, especially on Windows. Obviously a bunch of old abandoned software will never be updated, but yeah.

It's a standard just like how VST3 is standard. Not. :D

I am of the opinion until everything you're using isn't HiDPI compatible, you shouldn't bother with HiDPI monitors.

Post

It shouldn't make much difference for desktop apps, that's true. For games and other stuff, it makes a big difference.

And, I agree with ED: Full HD is the standard. It will still take a while for 4K becoming a standard.

Once you've used a 4k monitor regularly, anything less sucks

Gaming at 4k is still ROUGH if you are a frames-per-second slut like me :P

Yep... for VR and 4K, you really need a good rig.

Post

pfft,i want it to look awesome on vr.
occulus rift is a standard now :)

also, can we have 3d and 360 degrees.
you see them a bit now too.

Yes, but even at 1080p, many old GUIs (including NI ones) suck big time on a 15“ laptop screen.

They're also sluggish to load / open up
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

Disagree there. I don't really feel wowed by the 4K koolaid.

Benefit of not being wowed here is not whining about how plugin xyz looks tiny and unusable. :D

If I had Komplete 12, an upgrade to 13 doesn't seem to offer that much, to be honest

Indeed, that is usually the way to go.

The longer you wait the better the goodies. :D

Aye, maybe there will be 100 expansion packs in Komplete 14 :D

Post

I never really see much point to the expansion packs unless you have Maschine - they should include at least some sort of lite version with Komplete (and I say that as a person who has Maschine!)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

With the hints given about new dev tools, an ala-cart shop
would be a healthy temptation, as new models and effects
are presented. The "Special thanks to Fender" note is also
encouraging!
