Thanks all for your input. As for the small knobs.
As all knob data is sent and received via cc, I guess I can always use an external controller or my mc-707 (which has 3 lanes of automation data) ?

Yes. Sometimes I even use a template in MIDI Designer Pro on an old iPad to control everything (my SE-02 is normally tucked behind the OB-6, under my monitor, and isn't so convenient to pull out and to the side etc.). Not saying that's easier, just saying that everything but some menu options has a MIDI CC.

I finally received my SE-02.
This little synth is a real beast. I think we are going to be good friends.
Can sound like a minimoog but can do a lot more too.
I'm quite OK with the formfactor. A smaller size suits me better than a big synth.
And while the knobs are small and you have to tweak them carefully, I have no major gripe with it.
What annoys me more is that there is no catch up when you twiddle the knobs, so you get a sudden change in sound.
Any suggestions? As the synth is 2 years old, I guess we shouldn't expect a fix for that?

Congratulations! Make sure your firmware is updated, and read the Unofficial Manual for it. And consider buying the editor and some patches.
Oh, man. I can’t stand that mode. That’s the first thing I turned off on my other synth! I want full control, what you see is what you get/hear.
I wouldn’t expect any further firmware updates, personally, but I haven’t heard either way.

SE is good like that. I can tuck my ATC under my desk and use an app to fully control it.vitocorleone123 wrote: Sat Jun 13, 2020 3:33 pm Yes. The Ext Box makes it even better. I find the drive indispensable for dealing with the total loss of low end when you turn up the resonance on the ladder filter, and having a big, analog cutoff knob is a way better experience (though it’s only useful for performance; it doesn’t change the cutoff value that gets saved with the patch, and you can’t automate it). Would have been nice to have those features built in, but there’s obviously nowhere to put a large cutoff knob, and maybe the extra circuitry wouldn’t fit in the box.elxsound wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2020 12:57 am Congrats on the purchase.... definitely check out the EXT Box too!
Anyway, with or without the Ext Box, the SE-02 is a great little synth (with a big sound).

I have the SE-02 hooked up to my MC-707. It has bigger knobs ánd I can automate them. I guess I'm goodelxsound wrote: Sun Jul 19, 2020 12:57 am Congrats on the purchase.... definitely check out the EXT Box too!

The EXT Box adds Drive (saturation) and HP Cutoff plus gate control for external inputs.Stefken wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 2:45 pmThanks for the suggestions.vitocorleone123 wrote: Sat Jul 18, 2020 10:57 pm Congratulations! Because of it's size this thing is ideal to bring along with you. It doesn't run on batteries though.
Has anyone succesfully 'converted' this into a mobile device and knows which exact battery pack and ripcord I would need (European market).
Thx!

I don't know about battery packs, but the SE-02 requires a 9V center negative power supply providing at least 770mA (the included power supply has more juice, but that's what I measured with a tester), so you need at least 900-1000 mA for it to work (keep it in mind because the power requirements will affect how long you can run it on batteries).

Save and recall sounds with 384 preset and 128 user locationsStefken wrote: Thu Jun 11, 2020 5:59 pm Doesn't have presets. I don't like dialing in a patch all the time. It's very tedious and timeconsuming.
