Hmm... Why won't OP just edit the first post and ad the list of the favorite synths? That way people can watch the video if they want to or just read the list? After all, there is the edit button

Exactly. This is the sentiment behind my comment about engaging in a forum discussion. I could have been more clear. I'm sure the OP is in fact genuine and enthusiastic. That will just come across better if the original post includes the key information rather than linking to a video with a headline that reads as clickbait. I mean, it's not as bad as "One weird synth, discovered by a dad, that commercial software developers don't want you to know about," but still.Chapelle wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 12:57 pm To me, the OP simply looks like trying to get ad revenue and/or clicks on a video.
If he had written something like this......I wouldn't have a problem with it at all. I could make a guess if watching the video might be worth my time. But the whole "bla bla bla, click the video to find out" is simply annoying. Here are my favorite free instrument plugins:
1. Supersynth A
2. Amazing Piano B
3. Awesome Guitar X
4. Impressive Bass Y
5. Astonishing Kazoo Z

For my part, I've really enjoyed Lith and Odin 2. I haven't really done anything with BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover, but the quality they've managed to squeeze into a couple hundred megabytes of samples is impressive.
Now, where can I find this Astonishing Kazoo Z plugin? That sounds like something I need in my life.

Absolutely, I personally like the layout. Just cant complain for free. The key switches are a little hidden right down in the lowest octave.... I actually had to consult the manual!wagtunes wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:44 pm I did fill out the survey and downloaded the BBC Orchestra. Have used it quite a bit. What I like about it is that it's easy to use and actually sounds fine if you don't need all the articulations that come with the massive libraries. If I had the money, I'd be tempted to get Core because I like the overall sound of BBC. But the interface is absolutely the best. I wish all the orchestral libraries were laid out like this. Would make life so much easier for me.

Man this is perfect timing! Just started looking for a free Hammond Organ. Using the free vox organ too looking to add fx to it. Downloaded all the lostin70 and hoping to check it out tonight.

Don't you think that the astonishing kazoo should be at the top of the list though ?
I hear that kazoos are making a bit of a comeback

I'm surprised Stylophone S didn't make the top 5
Supersynth A is nice but it's been used on so many hit songs the sound is getting played out. I used Supersynth A on a track recently and it came out sounding like a song by Superband

First of all, Mike makes a lot of helpful, well-produced videos -- especially on Cakewalk. I've seen at least a dozen of his videos so far (on Cakewalk and DAWs/plug-ins in general), and I know he doesn't engage in "clickbait". He also doesn't push his own channel or Patreon at the beginning of his videos (as some do), as if that's the most important part of the video. He gets right to the subject of the video. If he did have something that sounded like "clickbait" in his original message, it's gone now (to his credit), and if you look at the other videos on his channel, you'll see he doesn't say things like that in general.creativesauce wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 1:52 pmI'm all about the music man. Well, at the moment, for sure it's the BBC Symphony Orchestra from Spirfire (Discovery edition). It pretty much competes with many commercial ones I heard, and is fairly straight forward to pick up and just make music with.FrogsInPants wrote: Fri Sep 04, 2020 1:35 pmYou first. Second, thanks for this video, Mike. I wasn't considering the Melda or Lost in '70s plug-ins, but after hearing them in your piece, I'm grabbing them. I'm not a fan of Melda's interface, but this piano sounds like it's worth the trouble. I'd also given up on Spitfire's BBC SO Discovery because in an early version of it, there was such a jarring change in tone and volume for one of the notes in the violin or cello (I forget which) that it was unusable to me. And it was in all the articulations, too. But after hearing your piece, I installed the update and it sounds much better now. So thanks for that, too!

Thanks for all that. I know what you mean about Melda interfaces, not overly inspiring! But I have this in my favourite pianos list (amongst commercial ones also), coz I particularly like the rich low and low midst on it. Glad to hear they improved on the BBC SO for ya! Did you discover the key switches? It took me a while!

I found the keyswitches from watching your video -- and then told a friend who'd been looking for them for two months! (Apparently, he looked for them everywhere...except in the manual.creativesauce wrote: Mon Sep 07, 2020 12:37 amHey Steve, planetearth wrote: Sun Sep 06, 2020 4:54 amFirst of all, Mike makes a lot of helpful, well-produced videos -- especially on Cakewalk. Any second now a certain EBM producer will turn up and complain that Astonishing Kazoo makes terrible bass plucks, probably because of its moog filter.fese wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:37 pmSupersynth A is absolutely overrated.
