Nonetheless, as many others here, I wanted to give TrueIron a try and I did, I spent countless hours trying different things, using it as a summing device, on buses, on the masterbus, on mastering... but to be honest, I really could not find that "magic" I have been reading about. I feel that the added "weight" that I've heard around here does exist, though is so subtle. I don't know. I feel I know the omega transformers much better than this one and I just ended up forgetting about trueiron... is there something I'm missing here?
Yep, The omega transformers have a much wider range of usage, they can go from subtle to wild and always sound good, I just recently bought them and they are quite something. Definitely more fun to use than TI. I found that TrueIron works quite well across a whole drum kit before a tape sim of some sort. On single signals I also don't find much use for it. On higher distortion levels I once managed it to get close to TWK (or 458? I forgot), but it was a lot of tweaking.

Has this one been cheaper then the $20 it is now (50% sale)?

Good price, haven't seen it cheaper than $20. Getting it now.

Bought it, put it on the master channel with the master preset. It rolled off the top end a little bit, I can hear it and see it on the spectrum analyzer and made the low end "thicker" I guess, because it's really subtle. Maybe it's placebo, but it kinda changed the character of the mix, in a good way. For 20$ you can't go wrong.

well you can. especially on the master bus.
but frankly, you can go much much worse for 20$ than True Iron

I bought it specifically for mastering after demoing it. It's a great sounding plugin.

it was a general comment, that buying something cheap doesn't mean it can't be wrong.
I personally wouldn't put this on the master, but considering what people do put on the master it's not bad at all.

Yeah well, I'm not sure.
If i recall correctly it's a parallel clipper + some 2nd and 3rd harmonic dynamically. A fairly typical waveshaper. I don't think it resembles a transformer to be honest?

As i said, i wouldn't put it on the master... but i've seen worse

There are a lot of plugins that do subtle things that people love, and I can't even hear it. This isn't one of those. Even at subtle settings I like it. And remember, at Miyagi-Do Karate it's not about the money, it's about the plugin quality.

It seems, that 50% discount (FALL2020) is not valid. It ends on Tuesday, I thought on Tuesday at 23:59.

From their newsletter:
"Sale ends Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 12 AM Pacific time" - so not 23:59. :o
