Danvers wrote: Sun Aug 30, 2020 1:14 am Hi. Thank you for the ideas. The Linnstrument does unique things...but...my expression comes from picking, maybe a little vibrato in my fretting finger, sometimes a step or two slide like a pick-up note, and letting the sound die out until I stop it or it goes below hearing. I need something that takes the basic expression of a picked guitar, adding a long acoustic instrument-like decay. The SYN-1000 seems to do the first part with the tone used at 6:12 in the video. What do you think?

theres a guy here, allomerus, has posted some stuff in the cafe using the sy1000.
i think its a great looking piece of kit, but havent had more than a five min play in a ahop, allomerus will be able to give more in depth answers now hes had it for a while :)

im sure hed be happy to help

Hi Danvers,
I have a GR20 (GR55 is the newer version) and a SY1000 guitar synths (I also have a GR300 which I bought many years ago). They are the two main ways of synthesis with guitar. I like both for different reasons.
The GR20 plays samples and has the best natural sounds if you want to imitate other instruments. I love the sound of the saxes trombones on this. The way a guitar string bends is similar to bending a note on a real sax and it sounds really cool. The SY1000 either triggers an oscillator like a normal keyboard synth or modifies the guitar signal immensely to sound like a synth (dynamic synth).
With the GR20 I tend to go through the patches and choose a good sound.
With the SY1000 you can start from scratch and produce your own sounds. This box also does guitar and amp modelling so I use it to play with others. Simple one box solution. The GR55 does amp modelling too but I don't have one.

I looked around VGGuitar....I see a lot of vintage and retro guys who think about instruments and music in the ways I don't, and not in the ways I do. That no one answered my question about the clip in the video, and talked about other things, suggests the same here..... Thanks anyway.

I didn't read your later post with your specific question. here is an answer to that.

The Sy1000 has 3 'instruments' as well as normal guitar. The three instruments can also be modified guitar. So, to answer your specific question, you can make one of the instruments a guitar or a synth that follows your guitar and then use the other two 'instruments' to create all sorts of tails or layers.

I've had good results with the Fishman Tripleplay. The key is to use the full 6 channels of midi, which can take some doing. EastWest has some midi guitar virtual instruments that are nicely set up for it already, but you can also set up 6 instances of any other virtual instrument (with appropriate midi routing) to accomplish the same thing. It tracks the guitar playing significantly better in this mode.

Hi, i think i found the best way to control VSTIs without latency, as a guitarist. I did make a DIY midi and MPE guitar-line controller:

No, that’s: « i’m a guitarist and wanna play that sweet flute sound » topic 😉

i have just installed mine and goin nuts since days :D.
i use it with a fairly cheap guitar, a hartwood fifty6.
its absolutely amazing for what it is, BUT it is really a sensitive job to get the right settings for each synth patch. and not every synth patch fits the guitarplaying style. but it still works somehow at the end.
installation itself is zero problem, even in my case the more complicated one with a tuneomatic bridge.

the tracking of the midi pickup is great. but that thing is ultrasensitive. one have to experiment with the height of pickup to get the setup you need.

the standalone version of the tripleplay software works better than the pluginversion. the implemented soundbanks and synths are a good start.
synthmaster one and tyrell and dexed are included.

its a revelation to control a synth with the guitar nuances, instead of gimping around with a keyboard etc...

//add inf: i got a fix for that obnoxious "looking for controller" problem in a forum. fixed by disabling the "tripleplay midi chan 2 in" in the daw midi settings. chan2 is just for internal communication of controller and not necessary for playing. now the plugin works as good as the standalone app.

Hey man, I know this thread is a month old and I didn't read everything so you might know this-but you should check out MIDIGUITAR 2. I am also coming back from a break and just found this. Bye Bye Roland crap. You'll be able to play any vst on your guitar. It really works well for me. Good luck!

I’ve also tried all sorts of midi guitar systems for many years and I also think they all suck... They are fun for a little while but all of them are too inconsistent to be useful. I ended up learning to play the keyboard and I wish I had done that from the beginning.

I had the same question, decided to try the C4, and never looked back:

The roland gr sax sound sucks for realism. I've played/owned GR30, 33, 20, and the GR1
Back in the 90's I was the second guitarist / synthesist for a classic rock band. I cringed at the single pcm tone. It had nowhere near the expressive complexity compared to non keyboard workstation tones of the day. And nowhere near the expressive features of contemporary plugins or hardware equivalents. I played it because I had to (paying the bills) not because I wanted to.

On the other hand with something like SWAM and a decent breath controller...
