damn. Vurt is right, Legend.

Definitely one of those albums/artists that stopped me in my tracks the first I heard it. Still sounds strange, bizarre and wonderful. R.I.P.

Sad news. I was fortunate to see an amazing gig in New York at The Cooler in the 90s with the Silver Apples, Alan Vega of Suicide, and Peter Kember (of Spacemen 3) performing as E.A.R.

Simeon was leading a reformed Silver Apples with his big homebrew synthesizer. Alan Vega did a couple of numbers with them as well as performing on his own. Pete Kember performed with a suitcase VCS 3 and a cheap, handheld Casio keyboard. All of these mavericks playing on the same bill was unforgettable.

Simeon was decades ahead of his time. He will be missed.

nice! never saw ear (or suicide or members at all) but did catch silver apples and sonic boom together about 10/15 years back, in a poxy little club with about 100 people tops :tu:
well, on the same bill, they didnt actually play together
and i have seen spacemen3 once not long before the split.

and yes, simeon was way ahead of his time.
the two albums are relatively unknown classics!

I managed to catch him at the Victoria Park festival gig a couple of years ago (the day of the London Bridge terror attack); it was him or uziq.. I knew he had a mad setup, and his songs are all pretty mental sounding.. but I'll never forget watching him on stage twiddling his knobs for the crowd. a room full of old guys standing and watching and young folks dancing to the sonic madness.

you can tell when people have an affinity with their equipment. and he did. and it was beautiful.

Silver Apples had a rigorous austerity to their approach that was really unique, RIP Simeon!
