Yes they have implemented stuff, I never said they hadn't ever but it takes years for them to implement some things. They only implemented muting midi notes in a whole version update (11) 10 months ago.jens wrote: Sat Sep 05, 2020 8:15 amTotally! The users kept asking for audio-tracks and got ignored, they asked for VST support and got ignored, they asked to be able to load Reason as a plugin in other hosts and kept getting ingnored and more stuff like that - has this company EVER implemented something the users asked for? Nah, I don't think so, so you totally have a point here! Good on you mate - always stay on the factual side of things!![]()

I'm just about at the end of my tether with Orion. I'm getting weird display problems that make getting work done harder and harder. Still, if it crashes, it crashes when you try to load a new song, so at least I'm not losing any work, unlike with Cubase, although I do have one song now that just won't open, so I suppose that is some work that I've lost.
I just bought Studio One v5. I am hoping it's Show Page will make it a better host for live performance. If it works out as a viable Orion replacement, I'll then start looking at it to replace Cubase for my production work, too. Cubase is kinda cool but I have a few problems with it that I shouldn't have to put up with.

I still use the old beast sometimes to create bits & render to wav files I can play with in Live. I still have a soft spot for some of the instruments + it's a change of 'scenery'
If it was ever resurrected I'd go for the update.

It won't be. Rich learned his lesson and got it all out of his system. If he was to do anything, I think he'd start again from scratch.
I had Pigments weird out on me the other day, too. It also became invisible. I could see the toolbar but the instrument's GUI was gone. I added a new instance of Pigments, cloned the track, deleted the old one and everything went back to normal but it's all a bit annoying after a while.
I've posted about it on the Synapse forum. Some projects get to a point where they stop displaying new windows so you get a dialog that is open but invisible, which makes it seem like the UI has frozen. If you're quick to recognise the situation, you can hit escape and close the dialog but if you start clicking around, the dialog will be deselected and you're screwed. I eventually discovered that once you have a project that gets like this, you can fix it by minimising and then maximising the Orion window, so now I do that every time I open a new song, just to be sure.

I think I'd upgrade if they bought it back too. I'd use Orion for house music and think I'd use Reaper for my indie / guitar music buy yeah Orion is a Neat daw. Nice environment and yes, the instruments are terrific, in fact more than terrific, Monobass and the Pro 9 are great, the 909 is better than the official Roland one I reckon.melomood wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2020 5:29 am I still use the old beast sometimes to create bits & render to wav files I can play with in Live. Love Orion I launch it nearly every day. I own Studio One and everything ends up there but almost always starts in Orion. It will always be installed on my Jurassic PC. It has nothing to do with it's synths, but with workflow, it's my secret weapon.

Yes, it's the latest Win10 but I think it's as much a problem with new VSTs as with the OS. As plugins rely more heavily on GPU acceleration, Orion gets further and further behind. It's probably not such a big issue if you aren't buying a lot of new VSTi but we've bought heaps of new stuff over the last 18 months or so.vurt wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2020 8:13 pm@bones, is that on win10?

ah of course! i havent been buying any, theres a few i do have lined up for when i do get the new computrer, but been avoiding as the ones ive demoed are in need of a little more cpu/ram. programmers are obviously pushing a little further now the hardware has progressed.
be a shame to lose it though, the midi was so easy! other hosts seem to make using a synth a bit more of a chore.

Maybe I'm losing my mind but
I just loaded a mixdown of a track I'm working on into Orion, tweaked the onboard eq a bit & exported. It sounds a bit better

I still have Orion installed although I stopped using it for new projects when it was discontinued. I'll always have a soft spot for it in my heart but I think Synapse did the right thing by focusing on instruments and rack extensions.
Shame Orion had to be discontinued but I don't see it ever being resurrected after all these years.

No, as I said, if Rich does anything, I think he'd start again with something different. I'm quite enjoying Studio One at the moment. Its early days but I managed to get a couple of songs out of Orion and into Studio One in less than two hours last night. As always, it's a big steaming pile of different compromises but, so far, the compensations are stacking up in its favour over either Orion or Cubase. I'd read a few things that indicated it was more of a CPU hog but, so far, it seems to be on par with Orion, so no problems there. Orion is funny with CPU - when it is reading 55% CPU usage, Task Manager is telling me 23%. I think maybe it's not seeing all six cores in my CPU or something.

I don't think two people even ones as talented as Rich and Marcin would have the time to develop a full featured DAW that could compete with the other offerings such as Studio One, Bitwig etc. Especially if they were going to start from scratch.
I seem to remember he said something about a "sequencer" but that was five years ago and we've seen nothing yet but to be honest with the success of the instruments they have produced I wouldn't bother.

Isn't Reaper developed by one man? The thing is, though, I don't think Rich ever wanted to make a "full-featured DAW", those just became the expectations of the market. It was always a "virtual studio" and that's all he wanted it to be, I think - a sequencer, a mixer and an array of instruments and effects. None of the other stuff - audio tracks, automation and stuff, interested him. I'm pretty sure he'd have been happy adding new and better instruments and effects for as long as it kept selling. The problem was/is that most of the market is made up of idiots with no idea what they are doing or what they need to get it done, so sales were/are all about the feature list. If you can't tick enough boxes, no-one was/is going to be interested.
