Underrated : Einsenberg Einklang
http://www.eisenberg-audio.de/einklang
It really needs some more parameters and an overall re-adjusment of the ones implemented, the concept "we do the math, you do the music" is a bit unsensible for such a kind of synthesis, even "Macro" pages of many synth out there offers more parameters
But the technology has something really unique sounding

I couldn't find a buy option on the Eisenberg site for Einklang. I only found its price in a Music Radar review (and in a KVR post). Is it dead?
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

overrated:
- everything that requires a dongle since there's enough great stuff out there that won't require one, even though they might not have such big marketing hype behind them.
- Fabfilter: they have nice GUI layouts and workflow, but unless you're really into completely clinical results, there are many equally good products for way less / maybe for free, or even come with your DAW. Not bad, but especially nowadays you don't have to fork out that much money for equally perfect results.
from my favorite stuff:
overrated:
- Valhalla. I love the GUIs, the workflow and the flexibility, stability, low CPU usage and of course price points and they do what they do what's said on the box: reverbate and delay stuff (for the most part)
I love VintageVerb. I basically need no other verb than this one as it is so flexible and always gives at least close to perfect results. I basically haven't found an overall better one. But even it isn't “OMFG better sounding than anything else i ever tried“ in isolation. There's “specialist“ reverbs that do that for me if it was just about beautifully sounding tails in isolation which more often than not are not as flexible, way more expensive, have worse GUIs from an actual usability factor, (way) higher CPU load and in the end don't even sit better in a mix for me.
- Cytomic: They're good, but no god like status for me either.
The Glue is good, but i've been spoiled by UAD and other companies before, so while still a very good comp, i never felt anything “special“ about it compared to the (also very good) competition
The Drop while very good for many things, when it comes to more filthier sounding (in actual awesome ways) filters, i vastly prefer those inside Reaktor (or the first incarnation of the Moog Filter on the UAD - haven't tried the enhanced edition though)
The Scream might actually have the best dynamically reactive distortion i ever heard in the box, but not a fan of it's actual sound/frequency range at all. Most likely not a fault of the plugin though as i would most likely also prefer the actual sound of quite a few other plugins to the actual Screamer pedal aswell.
Underrated:
Voxengo: it's actually surprising how under the radar his stuff still is, considering for how long his stuff has been praised by (sadly too) few people, while there are hundreds of posts for almost every single Slate, UAD, Plugin Alliance, Waves, or Empirical Labs.
Guess e(xc)lusive price points and shiny GUIs with photo realistically animated tape reels elevate the status of some plugins more than you'd think.
I never found them to be ugly, and the current ones (especially the seemingly almost everyones new darling: the dark theme) actually really nice looking in an unobtrusive way and functional.
Having said that, i have been “avoiding“ Voxengo for too long aswell (other than his free Span, which most people seem to use anyway) since back in 2007, or so, when i was interested in a few of his plugs, he only accepted credit card. Call me dumb or ignorant, but at least back then i felt a bit uncomfortable entering my CC details on a “russian site“

Re The Drop
I actually think it’s under rated. Nonlinearities and stereo separation is unmatched.

Underrated: TAL Mod
Why? Because it nails the essentials: oscillators, filters, envelopes, modulation. Spend some time exploring OSC1&2 voice stacking, detune, and spread. Besides the reverb, the effects are very good. The delay gets a special mention for the way the feedback is ramped, turning into a looper around noon. On many delays, the feedback goes wild and unmanageable fairly quickly.

TAL Mod is the best VSTi instrument on the planet as far as i'm concerned
Of course it is not perfect, but most of what it does is simply incredibly sounding.
Another one i actually havent tried, but i'm sure actually has to be really good aswell and almost talks about anymore, despite being from one of the biggest names in the business has to be Native Instruments Super 8 (i'm not even sure anyomore of that's the actual name, but i'm quite sure it is - i hope )

Not to mention it midi capability which essentially lets you add its filters to any VST/AU instrument rather than adding them as an after effect.perpetual3 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:30 pm Re The Drop
