I don't so much recall DX7 flutes, it's not me who said that.

Zappa found himself without Ed Mann in 1984 and had Alan Zavod cover the vibes/marimba/xylophone parts on DX7; it almost worked but to those more familiar with the real kind of dates the recordings specifically to 'the time of the DX7'. We actually attended seminars for programming that thing around that time with Gary Leuenberger, the original programmer (way back to development and the GS1). I was more interested in going way, way out but the acoustical model was a great way to get yer chops for it, and one can actually do better than the known factory ROM stuff.

Chords. I fuckin' hate 'em. They always sound awful with synths. You can do it with a piano and big, multi-layered orchestral strings but that's about it. Everywhere else it's just cheesy and horrible.
