Thanks for making a decision, John. I'm still on the fence.

I don't think there is any more happening in Illuminate2, but I do think that whatever is happening can be more easily heard. This has to be as a result of the new instrument/arrangement choices.

I'm in for version 2 as well, very cool sounds for the piece. The sonic edges are sharper. :)

That (tump, tump) was a very (tump, tump) relaxing experience. silky smooth strings
section. i can feel (tump, tump) the tension mounting...(tump, tump ta da tump tee dum tump, tump) good stuff, Tim.

Thanks very much for checking out the alternative version, layzer. Glad you enjoyed it :)

In case anybody was wondering, the title of the new piece features a quote from the "Alien: Covenant" movie. That scene was the inspiration for this rework.

Thanks very much for checking these out, Dave. Glad you enjoyed it :)

v2 seems to be edging ahead in the popularity stakes. Maybe I'll try some of the other Spitfire/LABS instruments.

Eventually I had the chance to listen to the rework. The changes are subtle, but, like the original, retain the atmosphere right away.

Both versions have excellent mixes and work well.

I prefer the bass of the original version and the choir in the new version. I guess it's a tie? :help:

I think that just about sums up the way I feel about them. I can live with that.

Thanks very much for checking them out, Frantz. Glad you liked them :)

achieved great dynamics, definitely headphone friendly. I'm torn between the tension created with some notes sustained together but at other moments its like an enchanted sunrise, which in itself creates the interest. nice to take your time and let it unfold the way it wants to. an enjoyable listen

I do enjoy a bit of that darkness/light contrast lately.

Welcome back :)

Listened to both versions - both work well, but I have a definite preference for the original Illuminate...

Somehow the slowly evolving development of all the ideas seemed slightly more effective - everything more smoothly blended together maybe?

There is more clarity and separation between the various layers in V.2, but for me personally that is a very slight negative compared to the cosmic, sonic wash of the original!

I absolutely loved the epic first ending... seamless rise / wave of sound...especially on headphones! :)

I hadn't listened to either of these for over a month, but played them tonight.

I think you summed up V2 very well. It's got a "cleaner" sound and there is more space in the mix. I think the end result is a piece of music containing less "menace".

The original track has a "muddier" sound (bad choice of word, perhaps), with the synth bass combining nicely with the reverbed lower pad to fill the soundstage. The higher pitched arp in V1 works better too, imho, as do the overall dynamics.

It took me 3 months to get off the fence

Thanks very much for listening and commenting, Mark. Glad you enjoyed them :)
