Does this thing host vst ? Anyone using it with success,? I don't have Linux installed so I can't try it out without a major operation. It looks pretty cool

There are some concepts that you're going to spend a long time wrapping your brain around, if you aren't familiar with Linux. Even if you *are* familiar with Linux, it may still be a bit of a challenge to learn to use it for audio.

Before you even think about starting, you need to understand that some things work very differently
under linux, than whatever else you've used.

The Audio device drivers work in layers,
and you're going to need to understand how they
work. It's better these days, since ALSA is mature.
ALSA is the lowest level of driver you have to deal with. JACK is more-or-less a linux answer to ASIO, but that's not a great analogy.

VST support is emerging, and some plugins and generators work, but it's nowhere near the happy world of windows or mac yet. It's fairly difficult to setup the LADSPA, JACK, and WINE support needed to run vsti's, even if you're following the tutorial.

In your case, I would suggest the Dyne::bolic CD. You can get your feet wet, without reformatting your disc -- the whole system, including Muse, boots from the CD. http://dynebolic.org Bootable cd has been bundled with some magazines recently too.

I hope my message hasn't been discouraging -- there is a LOT of potential for Linux in the audio world, lots and lots of software is being developed, and the future is bright.

I have been trying out the dynebolic cd and it works! I have used a few of the music apps with success, but it does not contain the sequencer Muse, it contains the audio streaming broadcast software MusE.

Is there another linux boot cd that has the sequencer muse or Rosegarden?
Is anyone having success using vst with Linux, some of the software looks very promising

My mistake. It sounds like you are far along enough that you could do a regular install of Muse. Also there's Brahms for KdE.

this all sounds a very bit tricky...even Linux itself

could anyone explain a total Stranger to Linux what the main Differnces are and why they are ??

is it similar to the difference between Mac & PC or even worse ?

Anyone using the Linux sequencer MusE?
