Just bought a new iMac running Catalina.

I rely pretty heavily on FXpansion's BFD2 and GEIST, who's installers simply don't run in Catalina. They've both been designated as unsupported legacy software. FXpansion seems to support moving of files but I can't figure out which ones. (see screenshot).

Is it possible to manually install (re: copy files) BFD2 and GEIST, essentially bypassing the installer? If so, how?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Are you sure that BFD2 and GEIST are working on Catalina in general? If yes, then ...

Perhaps with CharlesSoft Pacifist you could be able to examine and extract the installer packages.

Not sure about them running at all. Checking out Pacifist now. Thank you!

Per BFD2: You may get something in Plugins out of the Pacifist findings (that ship has probably also sailed, tho) but don't get your hopes up. Yeah, I refreshed my memory just now on what Pacifist reveals (I set up BFD3 on a new machine in June), none of it useful as an installation, there is no actual plug-in or app in there.

Yeah, Pacifist is a really interesting piece of software, but wasn't able to help me out. The whole thing is really frustrating. Not sure what to do.

It's not so much that I can't use BFD3 moving forward. I can. It's that 95% of my sessions use BFD2. I can't expect software to be compatible forever. I was just surprised by this one. Because the plugin/standalone is 64bit. It's just the installer that's 32bit, and not compatible with Catalina. I'm not a developer, so I have no idea what I'm talking about, and I realize it's way more complicated than that. It's just frustrating.

It got worse here, I remembered there was content in BFD2 and probably a lot of it. I downloaded the tickets (4 of them, the first two at dialup kind of speeds) and verified an enormous amount of content. It will not install any kind of way under Catalina.
I think this is curated into a 'London Sessions' expansion pack which I kind of feel I should not have to pay for. BFD2 the application is one thing, the big selling point of the content to me is another thing. I found that during a BFD3-doesn't-install-under-Catalina months long debacle FXpansion announced BFD2 is not supported in any way no mo'.

And here it's not just the installer won't work, the Payload cannot work (albeit a moot point since the file compression type .bfdca can only be opened with the BFD2 installer; I don't think they can make the BFD3 installer deal in any workaround). There is a workaround from inside Package Contents I've needed more than once, which fails with an error message regarding the type of CPU.

Expansions are 49 and 50% off right now but still, London Sessions is $75.

Hey guys - you don't have to pay for London Sessions if you own a registered copy of BFD2. We will give you a copy of London Sessions for free. Get in touch with support through the fxpansion.com website, or message me here if it's not time critical (I'm not always on KvR!)

There are some hoops you can do to get BFD2 running on Catalina. Once you do, it runs fine. It isn't something we support, but it is possible. PM me for details.

Hey all! Joined the forum to ask if anyone can explain the process here to get BFD2 running on Catalina. I've got a fair amount of work I don't want to have to redo! Thanks!

I just found this thread while searching how to get BFD2 files back on my computer. I can't figure out how to DM you but am trying to learn the hoops to get it running. My issue is that I had the disks of BFD2 and had/have it on my computer, but recently the hard drive that the sound files were on crashed. So BFD2 is still technically on my computer but when I try to open it it says that the path to the files don't exist, so it opens with sounds. I have the BFD2 files on another drive but it's not recognizing them. I'm assuming I need to reinstall to the drive I want it one. Thanks for any help with this!
