Wasn't the story something like this: They forgot to renew the trade mark and thus f**ked themselves and decided to get some public goodwill by "giving" it back to Tom.
No. They actually just gave it back. Where did you get that BS story?

They already tried and failed to trademark “Oberheim”. Looks like the story here is now they’re trying to trademark “Behringer Oberheim” instead. I don’t think that’ll fly either, but we’ll see. In any case, Tom Oberheim owns the “Oberheim” trademark and Behringer’s already lost that battle.

I read that and it makes B seem like the c**t company I have always assumed they were. Am I missing something?

Clearly he wasn't willing to give them the "Oberheim" trademark, since he's the current owner and Behringer failed to claim it (hence they're now trying for "Behringer Oberheim" instead).

Tom's approval would be something I was missing, true, if it exists.

Otherwise I'd imagine the problem is obvious and doesn't need further elaboration.

What's the problem? There are always 2 parties involved. If Tom Oberheim gets a shitload of money, and willingly takes it, then he's rather the one you should criticize. If anything. The resale of tech, knowledge, or a brand name is a pretty common thing. Almost every bigger tech company in Germany isn't in the hands of the original owner anymore. Worse: Most of the big German brand names are sold to Chinese, and there's basically nothing left of the original tech and knowledge (but the products cost double the money...).

That's the way things go. If anything, better criticize the consumers for their tendencies to rather look for a brand name than informing and choosing what's best.

A bit strong to call them c**ts.
Opportunists sound better to me.

Opportunistic c**ts?

I jest, no need for them to call the legal team on another forum.

If you head over to Gearslutz, you can tell Uli in the face that he's a opportunistic c**t in your eyes. ;)

What's Tom Oberheim for you then, if he sells his name to others? A opportunistic whore?

Then he'd sue my ass so why would I do that?

B being or not being c**ts for me isn't about this story per se.

Tom can do whatever the f**k he wants, man's a legend.
