You can if this is your idea of what sounds good. I'd also be interested to know what you think makes it "dark" electro because it sounds very poppy to my ears. There's an ever-so-slight Severed Heads, circa 1986, quality to it, I suppose, but I always found Severed Heads far too poppy.

Sure but with a broader range of instruments and effects than you can get without spending a bit of money, that part of the process goes a lot more smoothly and easily. Since I stopped being an idiot and started spending a bit of money on better quality plugins, my mixes have basically started to just fall into place. I rarely need to EQ anything and I don't use any compression at all (vocals excepted, of course). I still put a lot of effort into getting the sounds right but the rest of it is a doddle these days.
