"A chaotic monosynth by Newfangled Audio and distributed by Eventide...features a chaotic oscillator based on a double pendulum. What initially looks random actually contains underlying patterns of interconnectedness, constant feedback loops, repetition, self-similarity, fractals, and self-organization."

Thanks ! Nice choice of synth.

Does a synth that requires user data to be downloaded count as free, or does the private data count as payment (dataware)?

Post

Excellent choice. It seems to occupy its own space this one. It'll be a fun synth to explore time permitting.

It would likely be counted as free, as there is no monetary value associated with the aforementioned data and it costs you no actual money. Also, OSC doesn't necessarily require freeware synths - there have been months with synths that were either very inexpensive (CM mag) or heavily discounted (z3ta+).

Check out the randomize all parameters button on the top row of the synth. I've already got a couple of nice sounds I might use, and lots of musical ideas just playing with that...

I want to immediately share a small demo that I made last month when TJ Shredder suggested Pendulate in the General OSC theme!)

This synthesizer looks and sounds like something developed in a secret military laboratory in an attempt to learn the technology of a crashed alien spaceship. However, scientists managed to combine retrieved from the spaceship sound modules with earth electronics, creating something like a synthesizer... And in this capacity, the synthesis of earth and alien technologies was able to imitate to some extent all existing methods of sound generation, be it frequency and phase modulation, physical modeling, virtual analog, etc.

Some scientists have hypothesized that the capabilities of extraterrestrial modules are much broader than our usual applications, so in the OSC community (a world-famous close-knit group of amateur and professional enthusiasts of sound, music and effects, capable of overclocking synthesizers over 400-500% of their stated potential and finding features in them that were often not known even to the developers of these virtual devices) under the guise of a monthly synthesizer was sent Pendulate - virtual synthesizer, which is the world's first stable hybrid of human and alien technologies, Version 1!

No additional instructions were given, and I can guess why - this might raise suspicions, especially given the already very distinctive synthesizer interface, replete with unique elements and frighteningly strange oscillation graphs. However, among researchers, all the same, very soon rumors began to spread with warnings and unspoken instructions, which was quite understandable - even among those who first saw the extraterrestrial modules and those who integrated them with earth equipment, no one knew exactly what function they performed on the alien spaceship...

This is the result of my initial research - a short track that does not go beyond infra-and ultrasound, and demonstrates some "typical" sounds for this... synth. All next week I will be on a business trip "not far" from the place where the "emergency landing" of the spaceship was detected, after which I will start writing a detailed audio report (a musical track) about the capabilities of the created hybrid technology and, possibly, about the primary purpose(s) of the alien sound modules. For the sake of convenience, I will continue to communicate on the forum in the same conversational style and with the same cover story, as I fully trust the OSC community in terms of privacy.

Good luck to all and... safe yourself!

Whoa very intrigued by the description so had to download it right away, some crazy sounds coming out of this thing. I'm very excited.

Given your track record of making crazy sounds with any synth, I can only imagine and wait in eager anticipation for the hyper-inflated level of craziness that this synth has enabled for you!

Hohoho!
I didn't expect the Pendulate OSC come so soon.
This is a fun one. As MalToné already stated check out the RND-Button in the top row. I have been randomly exploring patches for about ten days now and I love it. I hope I find the time this month to throw some twisted thing into the ring.
Greetings y'all!

Hi all,

this *is* a true challenge , this Pendulate is mono, use some CPU and sounds like an iron bell played with a bow,
am I missing something?

Good comparison! :tu: That's probably why it's mono, because when I imagine a huge bell tower with a lot of iron bells and a whole crowd of bell ringers with bows trying to get into the tempo and melody... :o it looks amazing and I certainly hope to hear it in the future!

Post

It certainly puts the Challenge in OSC, will give it a go :tu:

Yup mono ... but you can play chords etc easily by assigning each note of the chord to a different instance of the VSTi! The main issue people see so far is the lack of a noise generator. Kicks can be done, ask Z.prime! It will be interesting to hear the different takes on this synth - from ambient to chaos, from dnB to glitch to jazz to trance and 4-on-the-floor bangers ... and everything in between!

Gonna be a fun round.

The Pendulate generator easily generates a large number of different noises, it seems that there are no problems with this. As for polyphony, could you describe this multi instances technique in a general way, if it is possible without reference to a specific DAW?
