Hi there

I'm currently in the middle of creating MicroDicer , the new version of Dicer, our betaslice. One of the things that it does is midi drag and drop , basically you can drag from the sample slice window into a midi track and it will then export a midi file corresponding to the sliced samples (i.e. the lenght / timing of the slice and which note triggers that slice) into that track

I was wondering if people knew which hosts supports drag and drop of midi tracks from vst's, for instance in know it's possible in Tracktion and FruityLoops , but there seems to be trouble in SX3 .

So any information about the behaviour of other hosts in respects of dragging and dropping midi tracks would be very useful

drag'n drop of midi from stylus RMX into SX3 works fine. phatpro has probs in sx3 with that

Ableton Live currently does not support drag and drop. It is planned for a future non-bug fix release according to Ableton.

SX3 (Windows version) MIDI drag and drop from plugins is broken for most plugins, but works with Stylus RMX as xRAVENx mentions above. SX2 Win version worked fine.

SX3 Mac version MIDI drag and drop works. SX2 Mac version MIDI drag and drop apparently didn't work.

The SX3 Win bug still hasn't been confirmed by the moderators. You can find the thread here http://forum.cubase.net/forum/Forum2/HTML/070335.html to add your concerns, however another developer has already posted in that thread and it didn't make much difference.

Perhaps emailing the vst-plugins developer list for the drag and drop reference implementation for SX3 would help?

Drag and drop using a reference to a file with the CF_HDROP format works in sonar1-3 (assumably 4 too, but ive not tried it), tracktion, cubase SX2. I heard logic, fruity, and EXT do too, there may be others.

For me the grey area is SX3. Aparently Stylus RMX does it, but maybe they're using something other than CF_HDROP.

If anyone learns how to do DnD in SX3, let me know - I've not tried CF_HDROP yet, but I think phatmatic uses that method, and if that doesn't work..

Thanks for all the posts . SX3 does seem to be a bit of gray area doesn't it , which is strange because the previous version had drag and drop didn't it

Hopefully all the hosts mentioned should have midi drag and drop from MicroDicer into a midi track in the host

if it works with RMX maybe the devs would be kind enough to post a note as to what changed seeing they obviously know, and steinberg are not exactly giving a solution.

That would indeed be great. I've posted a query on the VST developers list. I will email spectrasonics too.

I just discovered Logic 5.5.1 Win, works with the above method too.
