Something to start with.

Two more, find the right MIDI note for you needs and add EQ+Compressor.

or just:

And there are some interesting links in their faq:

Here’s a really cool example video:

Though I'm sure you tried this, I´ll add the basic noise patch ( not-very-bright noise from ± note 90 ; center ±2KHz ) for the sake of completeness. There's brighter noise ( center ± 6KHz ) at the end of the MIDI-range, just transpose 2 or 3 octaves to get it playable. I noticed when bending noise upwards. When using the really high notes it''s possible to dial down the 'chaos amount' control as low as 50% to get a smoother noise. 'Fold' control affects the color somewhat. Also, with 3-pole LPG and resonance maxed it does a quite nice space laser FX. One thing, Pendulate did choke on this once or twice ; I had to take it off- and online again ( reaper ).

edit: When I have a track with notes from 116 to 127 there's no sound from this patch after loading.
lowering to <116 seems to resolve that but, weirdly enough, so does playing any note below 100 or so first ( just muted it by envelope ).

So today I bought a license for Renoise (yay!) and I played a bit with Pendulate. So here's what I've got so far:

Thanks all for bringing this to my attention,
Dan
Thank you so much, now it works perfectly! :tu: I think my approach will be to use randomly generated and modified presets, because I get great (in my opinion) sounds in about 4 cases out of 5, which I haven't met... never! This is an amazing synthesizer, so I don't have any words for Generate at all... a new page in the history of synthesis is open!

Great! Random is working a lot better; I somehow missed all the discussion until today, but had wondered the same thing. FWIW I was seeing this behavior on macOS 10.15.6 + Bitwig 3.2.8. But, again, seems much better now - thanks for the quick turnaround! :tu:

Ok i understand modulation effects aren't allowed.

Can i use Bitwig's modulators? not an effect per se, but would you say its the same? (not allowed)

I just don't want to be disqualified. I'm reading some of the tutorials. Blitbit says "Use automation and modulation to keep tracks and instruments interesting, especially synths which might sound boring and sterile very quickly.", so can i use Bitwig's modulation?

Using Bitwig's modulation system to modulate any of the synth parameters is perfectly fine, I do it all the time! I consider it just another method of automation, which is definitely allowed. At times it does feel a bit unfair, but them's the breaks for non-Bitwig users! :)

Post

Its fair as long as you keep it out of audio rate. Don’t get faster then 20 Hz...
In other DAWs you could draw the same as automation - think along that line...

I'm curious - is this an established rule? I had been perhaps wrongly thinking that any automation was fine, however crazy - becuase the sound still comes from the synth. It's not the same as an effect that drastically changes the sound of the synth - it is the sound of the synth, albeit pushed into strange territory...
Any prior discussion of this anyone remember or can point to? I can't see this in the rules on the OSC site. I have had it in the back of my mind to do an OSC with extreme modulation techniques for a while, though not tried it yet...

Thanks :)
