Echo Cat is an audio plugin that faithfully recreates the sound and behaviour of one of the first tape echos: the Watkins Copicat.
Retaining the original sound and offering modern features like ducking, M/S and tempo sync. Echo Cat is all what we ever wanted a tape echo to be.

Echo Cat brings back the sound and behaviour of the original unit with authentic tape simulation and three playback heads. With added extra features that any modern delay plugin should have. These include M/S processing, tempo sync delay times, filters on the feedback path, varispeed, modulation and ducking.

Drive the input to get that crushed tape sound. Push the sustain up to 100% to get that typical self-oscillation. Vintage sound with modern control.

Authentic sound
We've meticulously modelled the sound of the original hardware by analysing a high number of signals through Copicat.

Tape simulation
Echo Cat features our high-end tape model that responds, behaves and sounds like tape. That's its core feature.

Modern features
Tempo sync, ducking the full stereo or only the mid channel, filters, stereo widener, M/S, varispeed with modulation, oversampling, pro presets...

My absolute favourite Delay, which I was patiently waiting for, to finally enter the 64Bit - World. How marvellous that this is also coming from a company, like Wavesfactory, which got their Tape - Emulation Game exactly on Point.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

The intro price last for one and a half month. That is a great decision from the company. So one has time to demo it properly and/or to save some money to buy. :tu:

Cool cat. 8)

@wavesfactory: I'd love to see you add a tube preamp one day.

This is flippin' marvelous! It eats CPU like nothing else though. Some further optimisation on this front wouldn't go amiss, but it won't stop me buying it cos it sounds so good and has the right amount of features and control. A mix lock feature would be good though. I think the intro price for this is a bargain and I will definitely be buying it. Well done.

On the one hand: this is fantastic, sounds great, bought it.

On the other: dammit I was trying to reduce the number of different delay plugins I used :hihi:

Post

Will be any CPU optimisations? I'm getting about 30% CPU with twenty instances.

Is there any practical reason why would you run 20 instances of a character delay plugin that has a tape simulation in it?

I feel like people want everything to perfectly model every detail of analog hardware while using 0% CPU.

Post

I'm getting a 15% cpu hit off one instance, and that's with the DAW (Studio One 4) idling. I've a relatively new pc, that's pretty well setup, and that CPU usage is a fair bit more than most anything else for me.

But I've already bought it, because as I said, it's ace. I'll live with the cpu hit obviously, but I'll probably only be able to run a couple of instances max in most projects as it stands.

Post

If you close out visual of plugin does it still run high?

Post

I must admit I didn't check that. The HQ switch made next to no difference. I'll see if there's any difference with UI closed though.
