So Iam just coming to grips with how much stuff I need to download and reinstall now. EVERYTHING! Every plugin, every NI plugin, Arturia, D16, UVI, Fabfilter, Uhe, Waves, Soundtoys, Sonic Charge, Kush, Cytomic etc etc. and even the more obscure ones which I need to find the installer for. Its all broken and hours of mindless work await.
How can I possibly know that this is fixed and wont happen again. Its like a death sentence for your DAW.

Ooh, good thing I didn't mess around with this too much as I have a custom vst directory and it would
have taken me forever to re-install everything. 1000 plugins, I wish I only had 1000 or so plugins installed.

Heh, I don't really buy them very much anymore, but prior to eurorack and whatnot, it was plugins.vurt wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 11:17 pmpekbro wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:33 pm Ooh, good thing I didn't mess around with this too much as I have a custom vst directory and it would

My eurorack costs remain seriously dwarfed by my software costs (over 15 yrs or so). I should really
think about selling a chunk of it, and buying a Buchla or something with the money. If I wasn't so
lazy to do that.

Sorry I should have been more specific, I meant in this particular forum, not the various company support forums. But yes I missed that onepolac wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 7:32 pmviewtopic.php?f=296&t=553344rezoneight wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 4:30 pm So not sure why you guys aren't posting in separate threads for this stuff or did I miss something? I see a lot of conversation around DCO-106 which isn't a module. Had no idea about it until yesterday because it seems to be hidden in this thread. If I'm blind and there is something else forgive me but i look almost daily at the stuff here and mark everything read after I'm donePlease don't post news about non-Modular updates here. Use a new thread...they're cheap!

If you didn't have any backups then you should blame yourself.plopseaw wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:21 pm So Iam just coming to grips with how much stuff I need to download and reinstall now. who does a backup for his or her or (fill in) vst2/vst3 directories? this is a strange remark, i only backup personal data, not stuff that i can install again.Reefius wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2020 5:32 amIf you didn't have any backups then you should blame yourself.plopseaw wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:21 pm So Iam just coming to grips with how much stuff I need to download and reinstall now. EDIT: and why place it here? because, this is the most visible and active thread about cherry audio on KVR. yes it is an instrument, not VM, still. sometimes..

Did you try running Recuva? I got about 60% of my stuff back using it. The rest I had to install manually.plopseaw wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:21 pm So Iam just coming to grips with how much stuff I need to download and reinstall now. EVERYTHING! Well, as you can see now, with a backup you can have all your VST plugins back in less than 10 minutes. Without backup this can take many hours and a lot of frustration.WasteLand wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2020 6:28 am who does a backup for his or her or (fill in) vst2/vst3 directories? this is a strange remark, i only backup personal data, not stuff that i can install again.

Any hard drive or even an SSD can suddenly break down, it's not only a bad installer that can cause you to lose your data.
A VST directory usually is not very big (mine is about 8 GB), which makes it quick and easy to backup.

Nope, Cherry audio already took responsibility. I have used the same custom location for well over 10 years and installed 100's of plugins and never had an installer do anything even remotely similar to this.

I've made several hundred portable plugins for myself, as well as Reason, Reaper, SoundForge and Voltage Modular. Therefore, no installer does not remove my files. I don't spend hours or days installing and configuring plugins.
Most plugins do not require configuration and authorization, only a few. But it takes minutes when transferring to another computer or after reinstalling Windows.

Its a shame this happened, but the reality is you can have a hard drive crash or O/S crash (etc) at any time. It happened to me with a new SSD after 8 months
A reminder to us all to back up (its built in to most O/S's nowadays) or use rollback (that has saved my skin a few times and windows does that automatically)

I am sure the Apple OS will have some equivalent.

Just wanted to check in with the readers of this thread -- would you prefer if we posted only Voltage Modular news here in this thread, and moved any other plug-in news to our Cherry Audio forum on KVR? I'm happy to do so, to not pollute this long-running thread. Just chime in and let me know what you'd all prefer.rezoneight wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 4:30 pm So not sure why you guys aren't posting in separate threads for this stuff or did I miss something?
