The recommended plugins list is in need of some updating.
If anyone has any favourite free plugins they use, suitable for OSC, please let me know here.
Cheers!

Did I mention MPS from Björn? This will lead to a more compositional challenge which I would not mind at all...
Another option could be a challenge using only the stock plugins of a DAW but only one of the synths that come with it...

I've used the Sender Spike plugins a lot lately, particularly the tape emulation, eq and compressor: https://senderspike.wordpress.com/category/vst/RichardSemper wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:49 am The recommended plugins list is in need of some updating.

I haven't checked against the current plugin list, but these are also worth mentioning: Ignite Amps' PTEq-X and the Dragonfly reverbs. A lot of us use Sonic Anomaly's Unlimited as a mastering limiter - I haven't delved in too deeply, but a lot of their plugins seem solid.
And the free Klanghelm and Valhalla ones, naturally.

Yes, it was often mentioned here, maybe you) Also +1 for MPS, I think one day it will take its month!Tj Shredder wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2020 1:13 pm Did I mention MPS from Björn? This will lead to a more compositional challenge which I would not mind at all...

About DAW, Cakewalk, for example, has only a GM synthesizer (TS-1, I think) and a few romplers (drums, strings...), so this is not an option for everyone.
Push by Sampleson has also been suggested and I will suggest again. Previously, something was wrong with their site or links, but now it is available for download.

The trend is using a second DAW for the tricky stuff... or DC modulation... ; - )

All this talk about using DC offset as a sound source made me remember that However, note that this is within Bitwig's own modulation system, which occurs at audio rate, whereas external plugins are processed at block sizes, making it difficult to achieve the same result. As a quick illustration of this, I took the Airwindows DC Voltage plugin and applied a Bitwig LFO, and this is what you get: very heavily stepped oscillations, at block size:
So while it is possible to modulate a synth to do lots of things it wouldn't normally do, it still isn't possible to use modulators as an audio synthesis source. EDIT: this is a VST2.4 plugin, it appears VST3 plugins may actually be able to be modulated at audio or close to audio rates.

Well, shoot. I guess my meticulously modeled analog DC offset circuit is pretty pointless, now. Months of work, obsoleted before I even started.z.prime wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 5:19 pm All this talk about using DC offset as a sound source made me remember that this has been done before
