Quoted for truth. I suppose if we followed this comment 90% of KVR posts would be unnecessary, of course, except maybe there would be more asking people more about how they feel using a tool (synth, effects, sequencer) rather than asking for a big list of features.BONES wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2020 1:32 amHalf the battle is finding something you actually enjoy using, something that gets out of the way and allows you to concentrate on being creative and productive. I came from Ableton. The thing that really got me hooked on Studio One is the exceptionally convenient project workflow. That does not exist in any other DAW out there. The fact that you can switch between songs on the fly, have everything consolidated in a common mastering project and then just go back and forth between mixing and mastering with the single press of a button was an absolute game changer for me.BONES wrote: Wed Oct 14, 2020 2:01 am The more I use Studio One, the more I love it. It is so quick and easy to do pretty much anything and, coming from Cubase, the learning curve is almost non-existent. It's also really fast - fast to load a new songs and lightning fast when it comes to switching between open songs.

I hate to be that guy, but Reaper can do this.mgw38 wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 2:26 pm That does not exist in any other DAW out there. Multiple projects (songs) can be opened at the same time in tabs, including multiple master/mastering projects. They can even play at the same time (rarely a good idea though...).
A project file can be dragged in to any other project and the imported project will be rendered on the fly to a wav file in the current project. Double clicking the wav file opens the original project in a new tab where it can be modified, and is automatically re-rendered back to the master project on save. Likewise, existing Reaper projects can also be split out into sub-projects, and these are saved, rendered, and reimported as wav files.
It is very similar to S1's functionality with a couple more options. I'm not aware of any *other* DAWs out there that can do this

Yes, was going to say Reaper too. S1 looks better and is easier to use out of the box, but Reaper can do just about all it can and more with further configuration.

I've really tried to like S1 three times by now.
The first time with Version 4, when there was an offer for half the price. Since my demo period was over I just bought it and a couple of weeks later sold the license here on the KVR buy&sell Forum.
Second time (still V4) was as it came out on Splice as rent-to-own. You get a 3 day demo period, then then rent-to-own takes over. Cancelled it 2 days within the demo phase.
Third time was a couple of weeks ago with Sphere. Downloaded the whole thing (north of 60GB). Uninstalled it yesterday. Cancelled the subscription.
It's just not my thing. Too convoluted. Too much stuff related to studio stuff that's there, but I don't need.
Then the little things... I'm a keyboard shortcuts guy. The arranger tools and the piano roll tools are in a different order, but the keyboard shortcuts are still 1,2,3... and you can't change them individually. So hitting 1 on the PR does that, while on the arranger it is something else. On a 4K screen, non DPI aware plugins scale in a weird blurry way. On any other DAW each pixel just gets displayed by a 2x2 pixel block. Not so in S1...

Which DAW are you using normally? Studio One is about as little convoluted as it can get...
Try Cubase or Cakewalk in comparison. Then you know what's convoluted.

Bitwig. It's (to me) as straightforward and simple as it can get.chk071 wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 8:53 pm Which DAW are you using normally? Studio One is about as little convoluted as it can get...
Renoise. Since I've started out with trackers it feels easy to handle.
Reason being kind of the odd one. Because of the rack and the modular nature of it but it starts to get messy once you get to a certain point within a song. But still fun to toy around with.
Bitwig gets 90% of the attention, though
I used to be a FL fanboy for a long time, but it started to get cumbersome to work with some time ago.

I should have mentioned that I do not consider Reaper to be a real DAW. But seriously, I actually have a Reaper license and do use it quite a bit. Just not for regular music production.

Personally I've found Bitwig to be very limiting in terms of producing actual music with it, but if you are choosing Studio One as your DAW, don't think that you are going to learn it all in just two weeks or perhaps even four. It's really a multi layered application, with a gradual learning curve which is never ending as each update comes out. It has its functional elements all laid to work in the way they are designed but how you embrace these and formulate your workflow around them is from what I have seen from others online is different to my own approach. As for non Hi-DPI aware plugins, you are really best to avoid them and substitute them for those which are and do scale.sQeetz wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 8:43 pm I've really tried to like S1 three times by now.

I used Reason for over 14 years. And for me, Reaper is tantamount to working in hell... If you didn't know already, I use Studio One 4.6 Professional.

In regard to Bitwig, frustrating GUI and lacking the features and flexibility I need for the music I make, in addition to having a slow workflow which was one of the reasons I left Reason after version 7.02. Not ideal for filmscoring which I find at complete ease with when using Studio One.sQeetz wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 11:06 pmHow so?THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:55 pmPersonally I've found Bitwig to be very limiting in terms of producing actual music with it,

You can get the gist of it and watch other youtubers use Studio One, but it's not until you properly break the ice with yourself, you really understand why Studio One is very popular. If do you searches on KVR (look at the S1 thread in my sig for example), you'll find Studio One as arguably the most popular DAW on here, but to be fair there is likely a number of reasons other than the DAW itself for this.

You have got to be kidding me? Bitwig is at least as convoluted as S1, often moreso. Mind you, I am very much not a hotkey guy - my keyboard is often well out of reach when I'm doing music - so I hadn't even noticed that the tools were in a different order (nor did I know what the hotkeys for them were). I'm much more a mouse-modifier kind of guy and CTRL-Click works the same in PR and arrange windows, so I'm schweet. OTOH, working in Bitwig was always a battle for me, it never felt like it wanted to do what I wanted it to. As I said earlier, in 6 months of working in Bitwig, I didn't manage to get even one song ported from Orion to my satisfaction, whereas after just two months in Studio One I have around 40 songs ported across that are in good enough shape to perform live tomorrow.sQeetz wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 9:00 pmBitwig. No, you're better off not falling for the marketing BS and buying a proper monitor that doesn't cause you any of these problems in the first place. The whole hi-DPI thing is nothing more than a marketing con and if you don't believe me, just wait until they start trying to flog you an 8k monitor.THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2020 10:55 pmAs for non Hi-DPI aware plugins, you are really best to avoid them and substitute them for those which are and do scale.

I also find Reason to be underwhelming in regards of finishing a track with. It's just fun to play with for a time and then take what you've done with it somewhere else.THE INTRANCER wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2020 12:26 am...having a slow workflow which was one of the reasons I left Reason after version 7.02. How so? Nested menus... options over options.... I don't want to deal with that shit. If I would, then I would be using Reaper. j/k.BONES wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2020 12:38 am You have got to be kidding me? Bitwig is at least as convoluted as S1, often moreso.
It took me some more time. The last version I actively used was 10... i guess...Yes, about Version 2, I think.
You put a 4k monitor and a 1080p side by side (each one, let's say 27 inch) each one on their native resolution being fed an appropriate signal and tell me that the 4K does not look sharper, than I must say that you need f**king glasses. Antialiasing and Cleartype have gone a long way, but it's not magicNo, you're better off not falling for the marketing BS and buying a proper monitor that doesn't cause you any of these problems in the first place. Anything beyond 4K for desktop use, I agree - is nonsense
I've been using a DELL P2415Q since 2015 and trust me, it's not marketing BS....
