It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

This isn't the same Native Instruments company that was the driving force of their original creative days of their past. Completely different company now unfortunately.

An fm8 patch ,where more sounds exist in the morph square can't be ported to dx7.
just the simplest patches could be ported.
in fm8 there are several special features that makes it a unique instrument.
I mainly prefer classic fm sounds, so for me dexed is enough. but if fm8 used with its special features, it can be quite hard to recreate its sound in another fm synth.
Thanks for the explanation I am not familiar with the inner workings of fm8 but I really like a handful of patches that I wouldn't want to lose.

probably a matter of doing them from scratch.

I don't think FM8 is going to be discontinued. NI got rid of a lot of software years ago, but they've been adamant that the current line up isn't going anywhere. I would imagine the worst case scenario would be that Massive v1 stays a Universal Binary 2 Rosseta 2 AU plug in, and doesn't make it to VST on the new Apple Silicon macs, but that's about it for plug ins getting hosed from NI these days. (Hardware is another story, they've more recently stopped developing drivers for depreciated hardware.)
Yeah I hope it's not discontinued as it's perfect for what it does though a scalable gui would be nice.

QFT.

Markets change. If you don't change as a company accordingly, you get eaten. As simple as that.

If you don't feel like they cater to you anymore, buy elsewhere, equally simple. Just remember why NI are where they are now.

According to the FBI, "WTF" stands for "Wikileaks Task Force".

That one didn't turn out quite so trendy.
