I wouldn't advise avoid, but just to err on the side of caution. Save your work regularly, bounce/freeze-flatten as you go, if you can and I also find that minimising any GUI like the LFO graph etc helps with stability too.antic604 wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 10:34 am Another good tip - avoid M4L devices (viewtopic.php?f=7&p=7920383#p7920383)

I responded to your obligatory first comment in this Live thread which suggested to move to Bitwig, like that is the holy grail. Which it isn't.antic604 wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 5:47 amThis whole fork of discussion here started, after @Rivanni suggested that Bitwig users always cry they don't get "workflow updates", implying as if Live was any different.liquidsound wrote: Thu Oct 22, 2020 7:43 pmJust name your personal issues that you REALLY NEED to produce and if they are not there what’s the point to even mention them in a Tips thread![]()

Why avoid? Those devices work pretty well. I don't have any issues with them anyway. I couldn't live without many of them.antic604 wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 10:34 am Another good tip - avoid M4L devices (viewtopic.php?f=7&p=7920383#p7920383)
You run a greater risk with older devices that you find on the internet. Devices that haven't been updated in years.

I'm not sold that in Studio One audio editing, overall, is so much better, not based on that video.antic604 wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 5:37 am I'm saying it's much easier to do those things in Studio One.
"ridiculously" -- if you are going to exaggerate in so many of your claims, it becomes this crazy, shifting argument that has no basis in objectivity. But I have hoped Ableton would improve by adding a nifty way to comp.antic604 wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 5:37 am I - or you - we can do "comping" in Bitwig or Live, but it's ridiculously convoluted compared to most DAWs.

That was an obvious joke & I made sure it's clear that it is.Rivanni wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 10:52 amI responded to your obligatory first comment in this Live thread which suggested to move to Bitwig, like that is the holy grail.
Which I then followed with a genuine, Live-related advice. Unlike you, actually.
And even if it wasn't a joke, changing a DAW - or any other tools you use - may be conductive to one's creativity, even despite initial learning curve. It's always worth considering. Also for Bitwig users.

Also, my judgement of quality of Live's (or Bitwig's for that matter) implementation for comping might've been hyperbolic, but that really depends on how one's working. If significant part of my work would be recording instrumental & vocal performance then yes - that implementation is ridiculous in comparison.

Vocal comping in Live:
Vocal comping in Cubase:
I like Cubase's implementation better. But I imagine there are people doing fine with comping in Live. And I would not use the word ridiculous.

Why don't? It's not native device or standardized VST2/VST3. If I want stable/general purpose tool just use native device. If I want versatile well-tuned backward compatibility tool just use VST. Why would I take middle ground which doesn't good at either. If I want to use visual programing tool? I may try max.Rivanni wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 10:58 amWhy avoid? Those devices work pretty well. Yes, I'm aware and it still looks ridiculously convoluted compared to this:
I don't think we ever agree if we focus on - totally subjective - strength of adjectives we use

What? He starts the video by mapping out three hotkeys. Ridiculously convoluted!antic604 wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 1:12 pm Yes, I'm aware and it still looks ridiculously convoluted compared to this:
I do like that Presonus comping though. I wish Ableton would be that way.

Yes, I can see how this may seem preposterous!Dirtgrain wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 1:43 pmWhat? He starts the video by mapping out three hotkeys. Ridiculously convoluted!![]()
It's much easier in Ableton, where they pre-configured all the keys you'll ever need for you

Ableton is a giant in the music industry and trying to advertise a midget is pathetically funny
especially when a dozen or more of desperate soldier want to fight the invincible war of the DAWs.
In the meantime Ableton users are producing quite great stuff without trying to be Cubase S1 etc or populating the freaking projects with unlimited modulation nightmare
But of course it feels better to justify a personal defeat in the ability to use a daw by showing the new toy in a thread dedicated to help other DAWs users.
Brilliant!
I do play around with that “Clone” as well and it’s as limited as well, big time!
We can cherry-picking but in the larger picture of the music world if you can’t produce music with a modern DAW then that’s a on you who ever you are.
Cherry-picking on issues that really makes a difference in your Personal workflow on a Consistent Basis are legit points because are a Consistent roadblock in your production and your livelihood it’s effected and I would suggest to move on if it’s possible like, for example, Baphometrix that has recently moved to Studio One form BWS when dealing with serious audio production. That’s a wise attitude and he does it without going to a BWS thread and complaining for its shortcomings in those areas AFAIK.
So they like the idea of muting all the effects with a button because it’s impossible to do it in a 100 tracks project while probably their project never reach a 19 track size
I love it!

The hotkeys are a one time task... in that sense, not part of the actual comping workflow at all.Dirtgrain wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 1:43 pmWhat? He starts the video by mapping out three hotkeys. The comping in Studio One is far far better. If I had a commercial studio and was constantly doing comping I would never use Live for that. It's like the freaking stone age in comparison to say Studio One...
