Studio One - Interesting Problem

This is a strange one. I can save and open any song I've made on my PC and it always opens perfectly but if I send that song file to my bandmate, half the instruments open with their default preset. It also works the other way - songs he sends me do exactly the same thing. If none of the instruments opened with the correct settings, that would be one thing but, when some do and others don't, it seems really strange. I've gone through everything and made sure there are no Patch Change MIDI messages anywhere but the problem remains.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea how to fix it?

That does sound odd. I have never shared any of my project files with another Studio One user, so I cannot speak to this phenomena directly.
One thing I will point out (because it can really be handy; especially when you need to salvage a corrupted project file) is that Studio One project files are actually a number of files and folders contained within a ZIP file. Temporarily change the extension from .song to .zip (or just append .zip to the end of the name) and look at the files and folders within the ZIP. There should be a folder named "song" that contains an XML file named "song.xml". You can open that XML file in any good text editor (or even better, within a dedicated XML editor like XML Spy or Oxygen XML) and you make changes to it; re-save the file; change the project file name back from .zip to .song; and re-open the project file in Studio One to see if you "fixed your issue".

Weird. Are you on the same version and same OS? Same plugin versions and types - VST2 or VST3 - too?

Yes, yes and yes. I'll have to give the .zip thing a go tonight. Thanks for the responses, I'll let you know how it goes.

Are you talking about the studio one stock instruments or 3th partie , and where are the instrument patches saved , the default studio one folder ?

If you open a blank song in S1 and then use the Files tab in S1 you should be able to then "open" the S1 .song file (using the dropdown) & see a list of all the presets that are being used (as well as the Tracks, Channels, Effects, etc etc). Any of these could be copied into a new song individually & should also help you figure out where the problem might be. Good luck.

When you cannot fix a problem with your song directly from within Studio One (e.g. your tracks grouped within a track folder are all screwed up, and Studio One crashes when you try to manipulate them, or it just won't let you manipulate them at all; or perhaps a plugin is associated with a track, but Studio One is unable to remove it for you), you can often remedy the problem with some careful editing of the appropriate XML file from within a good text editor.

Sorry I've been a bit absent. Things are pretty much back to normal here and I've been out for dinner the last couple of nights. But before I went to bed last night, I had a look at a few songs in the Browser and discovered that the Presets folder displays two different icons and one of them indicates that the patch has been saved, the other seemingly that it hasn't. So that's progress, at least I can now see where no patch is saved so I'll know when I stumble on a fix.
Of course, it doesn't explain why everything loads properly on my workstation but not on any other computer. Clearly there is some information stored somewhere outside the song file that it can read on my workstation but is absent on other machines.
I'll continue investigating and keep this thread up to date with my findings.

I think I have the same issue. My template includes Valhalla Vintage Verb, and it always reverts to the default preset when I transfer my projects between workstation and laptop. Sadly, I don't have any ideas for a fix, but I'll take a look at the ideas in this topic as well.

Not yet, I'll wait and see if I can sort it out myself. I've posted issues on their forum before and got absolutely nothing of any use from them. And it took a many days to get any response at all.

I played around with things a bit more last night but didn't get anywhere. So I bit the bullet and created a support ticket last night. We'll see if that gets me anywhere.

UPDATE: Presonus seem to have no clue. They've run me through a few things, none of which have had the slightest impact. Their ideas have sparked a few ideas of my own and none of those have made a difference, either.
