This is the continuation of the highly successful v3 beta topic, where I received lots of suggestions, bug reports and other feedback. The old beta topic remains in the forum, closed for new posts. Feel free to post your thoughts, requests, bugs in this new topic!

About the beta

The beta version is available to all RapidComposer owners, so this is not a public beta. The beta version is usually solid for serious work, but there may be smaller bugs in new functionality. It includes the latest bug fixes, and new features, sometimes months ahead of the release.

Download

The download URL has changed since v3! You need to add the word "beta" to the download URL. E.g. the URL xyz.php becomes xyzbeta.php.
I will gladly send the URL to any RapidComposer owners by request (PM or e-mail).

Installation

Execute the installer. This new version uses the Documents/RapidComposerV4 folder. The program imports your v3 settings if it can locate the Documents/RapidComposerV3 folder. Please note the custom phrases and rhythms folder will point to your existing folders in Documents/RapidComposerV3.

Updates

The beta RSS feed (beta.xml file) is not used anymore. Instead, a new topic will be created with the beta history.

Version 4 Notes (IMPORTANT)

v4.0 is the biggest development in the history of RapidComposer. Both the internals and the user interface have been reworked. As a result new features will be added more quickly in the future, with less bugs or stability issues.

The plug-ins have been rewritten from scratch, and became self-contained, which means bridging to the main application is not needed anymore (which proved to be fragile in some cases).

Binary compatibility with v3 composition files ended. Phrases saved in v3 can be loaded, except for phrase generator presets, and phrases in text format. This means almost all contributed phrases are usable, except for about 340 of 42000+.

check for beta update not working for me

Hello Attila! About version 4 beta ..
1. I can not get the sound from either SF .
2. The composition is not remembered and after loading I see a clean composition, but after trying to load the previous composition I see an error message.
3. The Save Composition shortcut does not work, the Save As works for this shortcut.
There are other problems too, but more on that later. Thanks.

I expected some new bugs, but I am sure I tested saving/loading compositions.

I don't know, this works well here, both on Windows and macOS.
Do you use VST plug-ins in that composition, or just soundfonts?

Also soundfont playback works as before.

SF sounds now play (with long manipulation))

I realized a small confusion about the imported V3 settings file. It loads soundfonts from the RapidComposerV3 and RapidComposerV4 folders. I'll fix that.

Hi starflakeprj,

yes, it is a paid upgrade for orders before April 1st, 2019.
Most probably the upgrade will cost USD 59 for the full edition. I said "probably" because I have not made a final decision about it yet.
I hope this sounds reasonable because the last major upgrade (v3.0) was in 2016 which had a grace period of more than 2 years.

Thanks, 59 USD is more than reasonable. I wouldn't complain if it was changed to 79 USD either (but can only talk for myself there).

hey, probably would be great if there was a setting for automatically checking for updates at the start up of RC. Something that would allow for daily, weekly, or monthly as choices.. Personally, I would not mind an auto update install too.. but, some may not want that..
