What a radical idea! I always thought they're there to be compared with eachother in order to complain on forums about what they're missing vs. competition :o

but it would be another topic :D

ps. and this is why I miss retrospective recording from BWS

Basically, in a roundabout way (stops with nearly every other DAW), I left Cubase for Ableton Live. This was a while ago. Nothing wrong with others, I just appreciate the visual simplicity of Live and the ability to scale the interface. I have my quibbles, but the good far outweighs the bad for me. A lot depends on what you're doing with the DAW.

Sure. I just watched below video of State Azure making a track in Bitwig, and it can basically be thought of as live performance, because the music never stops, all his choices seem to be deliberate and sound good, there's clear - and coherent - progression through it all. I never really thought of that, but this is a very typical way of working in Bitwig:
I had a quick dash through that video and the sounds that Bitwig generates are very good.

As to the performance we quickly run into the main problem with "clip" base stuff - repetition and not knowing when enough is enough.

The flutey sound soon got annoying - a few bars would do- not through the whole thing please.

This producer would do well to sit through some of the great classical composers like Beethoven, and Schubert , Mendleson , and learn how to be more structured and disciplined.

Having said that. it has promise as a synth version of a symphony,I quite liked it. A new genre.
What to say really :dog:

Bitwig didn't make any sounds in that video, that was Pigments, Dune, Serum and Microtonic- not saying BWS couldn't make great sounds, but seriously man.

It wasn't a performance, he was just filming himself making a track. Could have been any host.

And tbh I didn't know there are other kinds of workflows, that is how I've always done my songs.

That said, I absolutely loved the track!

I did and now I'm eyeing Bitwig cause Ableton's development seems to be dead and Bitwig has regular updates practically every 2 months or so and they seem to be heading in the right direction.

I was told it was a Bitwig performance, so I naturally concluded that it was Bitwig sounds. I was impressed - now I am not. Any old DAW could have been used to do this.

We were discussing live performances, and this was a live performance, if not what was the point of posting it ?

Really ?

You didnt know that there are structured songs that are worked out in advance ?

Even Jazz has structure .

Actually, some DAW's couldn't do this cause the sound would have been interrupted while working

Years ago I left Cubase for Live with a stop on Tracktion in between. Then I branched to Live and Logic, then I left Live for Bitwig. Now I use Bitwig and Logic.

I'd really like to see some market share stats of the different DAW's. I'm wondering how many people use Bitwig, Live, any DAW really. Would be very interesting to see.

I hear sound interrupted when he inserted Diva. It should be inevitable because of latency.

...and then compare that with KvR stats. I bet the results would be close to up side down :)

You mean songs that are worked out before they are worked out? Every composition process starts somewhere.

True.

I had no idea who "State Azure" was until i clicked the video link.

I did not realise it was a vid of someone showing there compositional process.

Anyways I clicked on some of there other stuff and its all ambient.

Phil Collins "Something in the air Tonight" is turned into something unrecognisable from the original under the guise of "ambient". No structure. Just ambience. Someone must like it.

Not for me I am afraid.
