This problem is pretty much gone for me since I decided to only install VST3 if available. Makes installing faster and less problematic, I let them install into the VST3 default path and don’t bother whether they create subdirectories or not. Really liberatingFunkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2020 1:30 pm I just updated and they all look like the old, lighter, less distressed versions. Not sure what's going on.
EDIT
Nevermind. Fuse Audio does that annoying thing where it adds an additional Vendor sub-folder to the plugin path. So if you specify D:\VST Plugins\Fuse Audio Labs\ when you install, you get plugins located in D:\VST Plugins\Fuse Audio Labs\Fuse Audio Labs. This is why I was still seeing the old versions. I had to manually overwrite them with the new ones.
That's probably my only pet peeve with Fuse.

Yeah, I'm fine with letting VST3 do it's thing, but I still favor VST2 over VST3 when both are available. Reading through release notes, my experience tells me there's more frequently VST3 specific bugs and the older format is just better understood/supported across the variety of DAWs and platforms.fese wrote: Wed Oct 28, 2020 5:37 pm This problem is pretty much gone for me since I decided to only install VST3 if available. So if I have both, I install and use the VST2. Reaper has a nice option to even let you do this automatically where duplicates exist.

There you go. You reading this Steinberg? Why do you release such a bug-ridden thing called vst3 before VST2 is even obsolete? Its beyond me.

For no particular reason, frankly, except for maybe the fact that I never got my hands on a FET-Compressor. And I believe that particularly the 1176 has been emulated to death, so it's unlikely to see a Fuse emulation of that one - I know, I know there are other cool FET comps out there.
Afair, I had to do deal with a FET in the elysia karacter once, so that one doesn't count as a compressor. That's about it with me and FETs in audio circuits![]()
Best,

(Most significant differences in a FET compressor are it's attack and release times which are fast compared to other analog compressors, like VariMu, VCA and Opto. Also, FET compressors
add harmonic distortion and non-linear compression rather than linear compression provided by non-analog emulation digital compressors. )
List of some 1176 compressor emulations:
01) Slate Digital FG-116 and others - Subscription model or expensive! Virtual Mix Rack reportedly has long initial load time - installation is reported to be bloated
02) UAD 1176 Rev E - Need hardware, high latency (they have other 1176's I think.
03) Waves 1176's - e.g. CLA 76 "Waveshell" system that their plugins run on is an antiquited heap of garbage from the 90's
04) Softube FET / Native Instruments VC76 - Made over 10 years ago, not top quality sound and emulation
05) IK Multimedia 1176 - aka IK Multimedia Black 76 Limiting Amplifier
IK Multimedia’s take on this classic compressor is based around the Rev. E. “Blackface” hardware model (Urei 1176LN unit). It is a faithful recreation with a few additional features like mid/side processing or stereo linking for buss applications. It works with sample rates up to 192kHz and comes in all the popular plug-in formats – VST, AU, AAX, and RTAS. The Black 76 is one of the most faithful 1176 plug-ins true to the original hardware. It costs €99.99.
06) DMG Audio Track Comp - has an 1176 emulation built in - has various extra features and behavior - non-authentic
07) McDSP SST’76
08 ) Analog Obsession's versions
09) Varii Comp (Native Instruments) aka Native Instruments VC76
11) Arturia Comp FET-76
12) Pulsar Audio Smasher
13) Softube FET Compressor
14) PSP FETpressor (not authentic; zero-latency, smooth control parameters, stereo)
15) HoRNet Plug-ins FAT-FET Free Plug-in
16) High Voltage Audio VMC-76: the 1176 reimagined as a mix bus compressor
17) Black Lion Audio B172A compressor (is both: 1176 and LA-2A)
18) Klark Teknik - 1176-KT
19) Black Rooster Audio VLA-FET:
20) Empirical Labs Arousor (semi-based on 1176)
21) Lindell Audio 7X-500 - Plugin Alliance (w/ both continuous and 3-step release) - the latter is used to give it a more hardware-feel. It has 4:1, 12:1 and 100:1 ratio modes as well.
22) Purple Audio MC77 - Plugin Alliance
23) Overloud Gem Comp76 V2
24) Antress Modern DynaKiller (free) (inspired by the 1176 but unique, with its own sound)
25) Pulsar Audio 1178
26) Boz Digital Labs +10db Compressor
27) Stillwell Rocket
I'm sure I still missed a ton.

I love love love the VCL 25A. 9/10 times it's going to sound as good as any other vari comp I have and usually better/quicker. This and the 562A preamp are in my top 10 vst list. They almost always sound fantastic.

May I ask what might possibly be the purpose of this list here in this thread?

AFAIK Fuse Audio dev has also done the Black Rooster - so he's on the top of the list for both VariMu and 1176. The earlier list was added to by me - I wasn't the first to include the list in this thread - did the original poster remove his comment with the original list? I haven't checked?
