Hey, great news for Logic users who'd never grabbed this: MIDI FX Freeze is once again available! (http://www.audiocr.com) (It's a free MIDI event recorder that captures any and all MIDI FX placed in front of it in the MIDI FX section of any track, so no need to use IAC or the environment to do this.)

I just happened to check and the website is back, and a download worked. One great feature of this thing is that you can set the track to loop while you improvise, and if this is ON, it'll capture everything you do for as long as you loop. SO glad to see it back, so those who’ve had it forever no longer need to avoid mentioning it to new Logic users, or explain how we're stuck with Apple-provided workarounds…

wow. this is awesome. thanks for the heads up!

I’ve long used it as an absolutely indispensable solution to one of Logic’s glaring screwy omissions. Don’t get me wrong, I think Logic is great, but the program’s lack of easy, built-in midi-recording of the output of MidiFx plugins is baffling, and I felt bad for people who’d never had the chance to grab this.

If you don’t already have this, grab it now, lest it disappear again!

Can't you just send MIDI from track with the MIDI FX to other track and capture the effected MIDI there? This is how it works in Bitwig or Live, without any 3rd party stuff.

^^^ AFAIK signal of MIDIFX chain goes directly to the given instrument on a track and done, so an additionally MIDIFX plugin has to be inserted into the MIDIFX chain to able to capture the generated note, FL has the same issue https://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic. ... 0&t=207372

It's simple to export arpeggiation from Logic's arp as an editable midi region.

As far as I remember the green track has a Multi Note and Diatonic Transposer that change the single note in the MIDI clip to chord:

Obviously you're not a Logic user:)

Logic ONLY allows AU plugins. AU plugins do not currently support MIDI out.

So, Apple created the AU MIDI FX plugin type.

But tracks with AU MIDI FX do not record the output of the FX, only the MIDI coming into the FX from outside Logic.

Hence the brilliance and utility of the MIDI FX Freeze device (and the lameness of Logic, in this regard), which DOES capture all the MIDI outs from every sort of and combination of AU MIDI FX placed before it in the chain. No other devices that I know of can do this in Logic, nor can any Apple-suggested workarounds do this anywhere near as well.

Dragging MIDI clips from devices that allow that (like the Logic Arp, a great device!) is fine, but nothing like recording the output for as long a performance as you want AND including the effects from other MIDI FX placed before and after the device that allows dragging out. Instead you can drag out the recording from the Freeze device, and get it all, just as fast.

^^^ MIDIFX version of https://www.repeto.net/downloads/ also knows it (just tried) but the free version has just 4bar length inner buffer, and it works with FL Studio too

which has simliar issue: plugin generated notes can't be recorded with it, so

"clip" from the inner black "piano roll" section can be drag and dropped to anywhere, as can be seen on the video above

Thanks for the heads up about MIDIFxFreeze being back on line.

With LogicPro it was always possible to record the output from midi plugins by routing through IAC using external instrument plugin. It just was tedious to setup and not sample accurate. MidiFXFreeze is very handy to avoid all that.

This plugin is multi-dimensionally aware. 8 Instances of you have installed this plugin.

TL;DR

I'm sure this will be fixed in an update.
