SONICALLY Best VST Synth

So far, I haven't found any other softsynth to match The Legend, for "analog" mojo.
Anyone else have a favourite in that specific way, that isn't The Legend? Like, a softsynth that truly gets anywhere even close to an analog poly?

Even though I love what U-He has done, The Legend at least to me, is the best sounding VST out there as far as an emulationkvotchin wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 2:33 pm So far, I haven't found any other softsynth to match The Legend, for "analog" mojo.

I ended up selling my Dave Smith Rev2 after doing extensive A / B tests with U-hes Repro.
I'll have to try Legend. I'm not a big VSTi analog synth fan, I prefer the real deal in most cases I feel like my Deepmind 12 destroys everything I compare to it sonically in the box, but Repro is one synth I've found that replicates the Dave Smith Prophets attitude overall character and very close to it's tone and in some cases, depending on the patch, maybe even more interesting.

SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II is IMO still king concerning Oberheim OB-X (SEM Filter) emulation. Like TAL software it's a swiss development. So I'm slightly biased.

Sonic Charge Synplant and U-he Repro 1 and 5 go real deep sonically with ease if you experiment with them IMO. I also note Arturia's Buchla, but it doesn't have any particularly good presets. Arturia's Buchla sure isn't easy to design with.

I put Repro above Legend. Aside from those two, TAL Uno and 101.kvotchin wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 2:33 pm So far, I haven't found any other softsynth to match The Legend, for "analog" mojo.

Is this thread about best analog emulations now?
I like the sound of digital synths as well, I still prefer the punchy smooth DX7 bass to many "analog" basses. Also silky pads, for which analog synths are just too harsh. So if a plugin does those sounds, fine with me.

I agree with the first paragraph. As for the OT part, I think it looks a little dated but the layout is really good.chk071 wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 1:04 am I would add Spire to my list from a couple of pages ago. Really, whenever i reach for it for bread and butter unison supersaw pads, plucks and such, it does such a great job, and is definitely my favorite synth for that. It just oozes nice character, and "that" sound for those sounds.
I can easily see past the shitty and haphazard architecture and layout for that... hope that a potential version 2 which may come at some point would make up for that though.

Ok, I rather mean the architecture actually. GUI and layout are OK for me too. It's rather things like how the filter drive is implemented, how the OSC modes and the additional waveforms are implemented, or the rigid effect section, where you can't set up the order of the effects. A member here once wrote that he doesn't like to create sounds with Spire, and although I definitely enjoy doing typical VA or supersaw sounds with it, I can relate to that. When I create sounds and experiment in Waldorf Largo, for example, it almost does it itself, and it's much fun to experiment, while in Spire, I see a lot of limitations. It would also highly benefit from wavetable oscillators, for example.

I still think for pure sound quality, Tranzistow is at the top.

Questions like this are irrelevant because it is rare that “quality” is something definable. For instance, one could easily say that the Model D is “better” than the ARP 2600, but someone else would have the opposite opinion. Someone else would say a the Oberheim SEM was their all time winner. Right now there are people who are over the moon for the Waldorf Iridium, but I find it sounds kind of boring, despite it’s huge feature set. I’ve never used one, so it’s hard to tell if it’s the presets, but I have the opposite opinion of the Waldorf Blofeld.NeoKortex88 wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 3:07 pm Hey,
i know there are many Synth vs. Synth and whos better type of threads. However if you ONLY hear for the pur capability/sound of a Synths Oscillator/Sound Quality without looking at features what would the top ten look like?

Repro 5 displays the ugly grinding sound when detuning oscillators by 7 semitones and playing chords. I know that from several synths, not sure it is intended. Does that synth have a ladder filter? In Diva I only hear it with the ladder filter selected.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 3:43 pmI put Repro above Legend. I’ve always thought his strength was in the oscillators and drive effect, but his filters are a bit sterile sounding.GRUMP wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 10:10 pm Believe it or don´t - but asked like that I´d say that the MSoundfactory has a supeiour OSC Quality.

I don't have that much time spent with FM. But you mentioned that FM can do silky pads, I will try it. Always thought that FM has this "metallic" sound more suitable for basses, leads and so on.e-crooner wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:10 pm Is this thread about best analog emulations now?
