Its the route I am taking (I will probably buy the hardware DI and get the software free- or visa versa!)zvenx wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 11:48 am Hmmm.. I would consider the SE one as the upgrade from any previous version (that is you will get your old gear with all the new improvements/changes).
rsp
If you are going to buy SE you may as well have a free hardware DI box!!
I may wait and see what's included with Total Studio 3 first....they have been selling TS2 for 75% off for a long time now, so its coming!
Still seems weird going from MAX to SE as an upgrade

FWIW, I really recommend the Axe I/O to guitar players. It's one of the better audio interfaces I have owned over the past 25 or so years. I have connected a small mixer to it so I can route HX Stomp in stereo, otherwise I use Input 1 with the Z-tone controls. So if you're on the fence, the interface is really good.

But yeah, Ik has strange ways of doing things...

This is the cheapest DI - It has good reviews...you can also use your JAM POINTS on it (I just did) so I got it for 109E delivered and will get A5 SE FREE

@Peter had the Fulltone FX been updated for AT 5? I only see cabs and mics mentioned. I am assume any sound improvement of Fulltone will be coming from the new sound engine in AT 5.deastman wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 7:35 amThanks for the insight. I’m also basically lazy, so I like the idea of quickly being able to fire up an Amplitube instance and run sound sounds through a full effect chain. Sure, I could more or less replicate the Fulltone effects elsewhere, but I probably wouldn’t bother.glokraw wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 1:14 amThe thing I love about Fulltone, is firing up a really good distortion, chorus and delay that are made for each other, just puts you in the mood to play. The variety of Amplitube amps, and the flexibility of the board/rack, is icing on the cake, but for instant gratification, Fulltone with the free custom shop is hard to beat. With your gear and experience, replicating a fulltone-like setup wouldn't be that hard, but time is money, and they both are known to run out at the wrong momentsdeastman wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 5:45 am If I’m being honest with myself, I really want the Fulltone effects collection. I realize that I could just use the custom shop version and buy the Fulltone collection for that. It just seems like if I’m going to commit to A5 on any level, I might as well go all-in and explore everything else that it has to offer. On the other hand, it isn’t like I’m dissatisfied with the Helix hardware in any way. I suspect I would end up running synths through all the guitar amps and cabs in A5, and stick with the Helix for guitar. I do like the overall interface of A5 better than the Helix software, but they’re both perfectly usable. That said, I did get the MAX, and am glad I did. I appreciate getting surprised by the amps, and saving those special combos
Cheers

IMHO, this whole thing is a big hype machine. It generated lots of interest in a product that hasn't even been released yet. Everyone has to wait for it to come out to hear it. I would not buy something pre-order without first trying a demo.vurt wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 11:50 am i hope other companies dont adopt the "answer the sphinxes riddle to choose your best upgrade path" route![]()
There seems to be no great deal on an upgrade for existing owners of Max. You are basically buying a new version, just the same deal just like anyone else who bought a couple of IKM products that are valued at $99 or more by IKM. You are buying the new version of Amplitube.
The hardware route sounds like a decent deal as it seems that they are using AT 5 to push sales of hardware. But beware, it's not considered a "purchased" copy of Amplitube. Its considered a free item given away by IKM. So when it comes time to try to upgrade oo crossgrade, that copy you got of AT with Axe or Zone doesn't could because it's considered $0 value by IKM.

That's OK- I consider Amplitude SE to have $0 value as well, I just wasn't something more modern and resizable to run my Amplitude 4 MAX stuff in, if it sounds better that's a bonus! ..but for now feel I have value as I have the DI hardware which looks pretty useful and I consider A5SE 'FREE'.telecode wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 12:28 pmThe hardware route sounds like a decent deal as it seems that they are using AT 5 to push sales of hardware. Once the pre-order and early adaptor milking is over, there will probably be real cross grade deals from A4 to get people on to A45 MAX, this is how IK have always worked in the past. Probably get it all again in some no brainer 75% off deal for Total Studio 3 at some point in the future

WRT Axe I/O, do you need to run the authorization manager on every machine it's used on? A pal was quite interested in the Axe I/O but couldn't work out if he could just use it without installing the authorization software everywhere he went.

At the bottom of https://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/?item_id=10048
In addition, any customer who purchases AmpliTube 4 or any IK hardware package that includes AmpliTube 4 after October 15, 2020, will automatically receive an upgrade to AmpliTube 5 SE.

1) They are a subset of the AmpliTube 5 full IRs. AmpliTube 5 CS will use 16 IRs per speaker vs the 4 IRs in AmpliTube 4.jamcat wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 12:20 am Thanks Peter. Can you answer these specific questions?
1) Will AmpliTube 5 CS use the old cab impulses from AmpliTube 4, or will it be using a subset of the new AmpliTube 5 impulses? This is important to know for continuity.
2) Can you purchase AmpliTube 5 with Gear Credits in the Custom Shop? I don't see a pre-order link there like AT Joe Satriani had. Elsewhere someone said IK was ditching Gear Credits and pointed out that one of the AT5 videos showed the Silver Plate 50 and VHandcraft4 amps in the custom shop, but there was no button for "Use Gear Credits." So what's the deal? Are we no longer going to be able to use our Gear Credits?
2) That was a collection but since this is a flagship it doesn't have an option to pre-order with Gear Credits. I'll still run this up to see if there's anything possible. Gear Credits are still usable and viable and we still do sell Gear Credit packs, just to not leave that part of the question unclear.
