I move forward, I've little time or inclination for going back to something unless it has significantly evolved to the point where it has eclipsed the reasons why I moved away from it. The most pressing thing, is having the enthusiasm to create music at all, regardless of the DAW, which can be for any number of reasons, be that good or bad.

Hmm... but that's just for people who are remote-controlled. And ready to throw money around.
Any DAW I ever tried out (either demo versions, of Lite versions for very little money), I tried out because I was interested. Always came back to Studio One. The closest of an alternative for me is Cubase, but, a lot of things wrong with that for me, so, I'll just stick to my favorite.

I can't finish a single song either. But, wouldn't really say that I fall for marketing that often. Sometimes, perhaps. Maybe the luxury of not being able to throw money around, when you (deliberately) set yourself a budget. Highly recommend that then.

That's the point, though. Some 15 years ago I wanted to d/l "Madagaskar" for my kids and it turned out to be a movie about a black guy with huge d**k. But isn't this a bit like with DAWs? You come for touch & high-DPI screen support, but eventually you stay for modulation and Grid

i don't leave DAW's. i "stack" them.
i started with cubase pro (now on version 10.5). then came maschine (mk3 + jam), i am also a controller freak (is maschine a DAW, no, but it resurrected an old workflow that i missed, with more possibilities, most songs i made with maschine, end up in cubase with maschine as plugin with multiple outs, play some other synths, and vocals).. so i bought the push 2, to see what is that all about and in a sale upgraded to live 10 suite. i bought in the mean time reaper 5.9x.. before ableton, i guess, for one plugin, but use reaper, not as deep as it could be. reason 10 i bought also, when i didn't know, my eyes, now i have reason 11 suite, and it works for me better, still program the synths in reason 11 (panaroma p1...), and make small projects that i use for samples.
but i use reason rack in other DAW's. latest DAW: bitwig studio 3.2 (now on 3.3 beta).
i finish songs, at this moment; not, because i am experimenting, learning a lot, have a lot of sketches. that almost are tracks/songs, or even; they sometimes finished.. so, i have these phases, to experiment a lot, and then again make songs, out of the sketches and what i have learned.
i make my own sounds, samples, programming soft synths. out of sounds my tracks evolves.
i don't use templates for DAW's (yes very basic ones; empty...), because i never know what i will use.
and i choose the DAW, that suits me at that moment. i think i already wrote this elsewhere on KVR.
o yes i have also harrisson mixbus 6... don't use it a lot. it changes the color of the sound, yes that is the idea, and sometimes it works, but only sketches i have made. perhaps that one isn't really necessary, but in my case, it can be that in phase/period i will use it a lot, because it works for the song/sounds. but i don't work in mixbus 6, so it changes the sound, yes great, but... i already made the mixes.. it was meant to be for and end-mix, i think i problably shall use it. once.
and with other programs, like wavelab pro 10, spectralayers pro 7, and 3 soft modular ecosystems.. i have access to big studio... and MPE entered my studio, which also is a different approach, making MPE patches in voltage modular for example..
and in bitwig..
although cubase is as good in MPE as bitwig, the note expression, already there before MPE, i think, is not that easy as bitwig, but quite powerfull.
strangely enough, i work better in cubase, with what i have learned in other DAW's, new approaches, etc.
i am still learning, i like that, and surrounded by 11 controllers (3 MPE, 1 keyboard), i have setup to my liking.
and i have enough now, even BF, doesn't thrill me... besides DAW's i have invested much in soft synths, the soft modulars (mostly in the soft modulars, i think..), effects. i will only buy the MCompleteBundle from melda.
i don't have to compare them, i use them. so i don't have to leave ableton for bitwig. i still like to work with ableton, as with cubase, as with maschine, as with reason, and with bitwig. and reaper.
