Couldn't resist the temptation after demoing and finally got bx_oberhausen. And as everyone here, very happy with it.

FWIW, I just tried to look at the PA sale trends and looks like this is the best opportunity to get bx_oberhausen for this cheap this rest of the year. I mean it's unlikely for it to be had for cheaper than $25 this year with any voucher. $30 is a bargain for this synth.

Well, maybe it doesn't matter with your sounds (for your music gate would be enough ), but it sure would with many of mine. For instance, when I use an envelope for pitch modulation, I often need very different settings for decay and release. And I am not the only one for whom those rudimentary envelopes are not enough.

So on those occasions, use something else. If I was only allowed to have one VSTi, then limitations like that would be important but this idea that you can't use a synth if it is no good for one particular thing, even though it's great for 100 others, is just stupid. As part of a suite/collection of instruments, limitations like this are of no consequence and it makes no sense to focus on shit like that.

While I am allowed to have more than one synth, ideally I would not have to have more than one. I like the idea of using only one synth, which does everything I need (which is not that much, actually; complete envelopes is a very basic, standard thing I take for granted these days).
For instance, 40 years ago the only synth I would have needed to make music is a Jupiter 8. It would have covered all my synth sounds.

as was mentioned here, it was possible to purchase it twice over the last 6 months for 15$ (using either the monthly or survey voucher), but 30$ is also a great price.

I didn't even realize that when I bought it, but that definitely makes it an even greater value!

Whereas I don't even understand what you mean by "Moog-y sounds". It's a synth, it sounds like all the other synths. In fact, Id suggest it is the most generic of them all.

I remember when I demoed this that a lot of its presets sounded awful in mono. I'm not talking about standard mono compatibility issues with chorus fx etc, it seemed particularly bad. Not sure if it was the TMT. Is that something anyone else has noticed?

The spread mode on the oscillators has bad mono compatibility. I dont touch it when I do sound design.
Also there was a bug recalling reverb wet setting which resulted in too wet reverb afair, but this has been fixed in a recent update.

Really? Have you heard a Jupiter 8? It's pretty thin and the filters aren't anything to write home about. 40 years ago I certainly wouldn't have traded an Oberheim 8 Voice for one (if I'd even heard of an Ob 8 Voice, that is).

Why, because that's easier than actually explaining what a "Moogy" sound is? Is a "Moogy" sound one with the filter wide open to let the big, fat oscillators shine through or one with the resonance turned up so that the whole signal is attenuated to almost nothing? Or is it the Minimoog's style of FM? The Legend or Monark can do so much, and the thing I'd normally look to for character - the filter - is so deeply flawed, it's not easy to know what a "Moogy" sound is.

I was just meaning to say that if you missed that deal, in the next two months it's very unlikely that it can be had for cheaper than $25. So, better grab it now rather than wait in uncertainty. Indeed, I am more than happy to spend $30 on this.

the nice thing with PA is that one should never regret missing a sale, another opportunity is just around the corner, usually much sooner than it can be expected (sometimes even within a few days).

I agree. It has happened to me twice recently. I got Lindell 80 Series that way.

Sometimes it is OK to spend a bit more than you would have if you really like something and can't wait.

BX-Ob does not react to velocity information here. Is this normal?

Works fine here when I set it up via the mod matrix. Make sure you click on the mod matrix' slot number on the top though, or it won't apply the modulation. I always forget that.

I was trying to set up velocity on a patch last night and I couldn't get it to work properly. When I added a positive value, it got quieter as velocity increased and if I used a negative value, it didn't do anything. Strange, because I've not had that problem before.
