What's their official status - woodwinds or brass?

Winds. But in a pop context, they are called "horns" and part of the "brass" section. It's kind of a usage/ connotation thing.

They are technically winds because they are reeds. But, we have them as part of the horn section (particularly for pop) so that you can use them the way they are used in horn sections from Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Steely Dan etc.

Does "pop brass" also include big-band style brass/horn sections? :)

You know, that bombastic James Bond style... 8)

Yeah, that's the kind of brass I'm looking for, too.

Well, I got Studio Drums in the mail yesterday, and it's very nice. The kits have a spacious clarity that the OmniSynth kits lack. I especially like some of the extremely realistic crash cymbals... very tasty. :) The price I paid seems fair, considering the quality of the kits. Nice job Sonic Reality.

My only complaint... WHERE'S THE PERCUSSION???! C'mon, I was expecting congas and bongos and shakers and stuff, the percussion you find on every GM drumkit. I found the lack of it disappointing, but I still have the OmniSynth kits, and the percussion on those sounds good enough, so I'm not extremely pissed or anything. :D Maybe I'll consider looking for a percussion library in the future, one with lots of weird instruments. Dunno, maybe Sampletank 2 has a good selection of percussion instruments.

Between Studio Drums and OmniSynth, I now have enough samples to keep me amused and inspired until I save up enough money for Sampletank 2 XL. I'm still lacking electronic drums suitable for trance/techno, but I'm sure my new acoustic samples will keep me busy for a while. :D

This looks like a good place to post this question. Back in the early days of MIDI we had Alesis HR-16's and Boss drum machines that had "decent" samples in them and you could program your own patterns (ie Rock, Samba, etc.) and well as they included 150-200 "patterns" which were made up of an A part, a B part, a fill, an ending, and maybe an intro. If you have great samples already in ST2 or the capsules and all your "finger-drumming" is starting to sound the same (we all can't be as good at laying down grooves on a keyboard as Squids is!) where can one turn for MIDI drum files that would give you a good starting point. I'm aware of Steinberg Groove Agent and have the demo but I'm thinking it would be cool to have a library of drum grooves. Any ideas?
