hi people,

what would you say is the best orchestral brass collection concerning controlling possibilties e.g. swells with the mod wheel controlled.?

I am a little bit spoiled by the gpo what makes really cool controlling by mod wheel, pedal and velo possible. but the big disadvantage at this library is that its samplepool is simply too small and furthermore the gpo brass does not really convince.

On the other hand I am totally fed up of libraries that provide for each single articulation a seperate set of samples. sure that sounds the best...but the fun during the composing/realisation progress somehow gets lost. nothing sucks more than to implement some statical swells into your song.

I think the gpo way with its mix between samples and sound synthesis is the way to go, although it is not yet fully developped.

so is there a brass collection that has its strenghts in the controlling possibilities? really good alternating short shots? real time playable swells? sth that allows to do that matrix brass thing which is meanwhile copied in every 3rd filmscoring.

so is there something nu to expect? or sth that I might have missed?

I am thankful for all brass recommendations. 8)

No personal experiences, but these seem to be the best:

Oh, I can attest for Project Sam brass and its swells. Incredible! You have mod wheel control over it, just like you want. The best part is the libraries are cheap to boot! You are going to have the different articulations and settings in seperate files. Trying to remember if they have keyswitch files or not though, and not remembering off the top of my head.

I have Dan Dean Solo Brass. Also, quite nice. I don't have his Brass Ensembles though.

I am a Project Sam user as well and am a big fan as many are.
Not familiar with the Dan Dean stuff tho. Another to take a look at is Sonic Implants Brass. Pricey... but from what I've heard, superb.

only for this I put up a whole pc with win 98 se to get the yamaha s-yxg running on it. (works only under win98 se)

this tool has wavetable and vl-synthesis in it and the brass are in my opinion the best ive ever heard.

connected ist this com via midi and audio so that I can use it as a hardware-xg-synth.

looks like a bit overdone, but works fine for me. never heard better brass than from a yamaha and because I am not a keyboarder it saves me the money for a "real" yamaha vl hardware-synth.
music is the film that is caused in the listeners head.

Right now I would say that Dan Dean Brass Ensembles is a must have. It has the most dynamic layers and BY FAR the best orchestral session players of any brass library.
