Actually they do have intention to get rid of the USB dongle. When is still unknown.
Meh. They have been saying that for years and I'm not waiting anymore.
I liked Cubase and Dorico, but last year I made two clients unhappy because they asked me for quick jobs while I was on the road and I couldn't deliver because I don't bring a USB stick on me every time I fly to French Guiana for a gig.
Granted: I mentioned it on the Steinberg forum and got eaten alive by a bunch of people who are seemingly sexually aroused by the, uh, dongle. No wait that last sentence came out wrong...

There is at 0:48 a display of spline shapes and ramps on the key editor. The addition also of high DPI options for the UI is very good. These things will make me purchase it.
Boring?? Maybe, tho it is a good boring

Boring is good in my book. Unless boring costs too much. Exciting means bloat. Unless it's the good exciting. Sorry for being so cryptic. I'm having a weird evening. :D

my guess is 59£ to update from 10.5

Indeed a bit underwhelming :? The midi bezier curves and the global track feature in the key editor looks great, but that's all (at least for me).

Still no resizable plugin UI's as it seems (or fixed zoom scales at least). I was hoping that Padshop get's a new UI. It's such a great granular synth with a low CPU footprint, but the UI is just to tiny and no fun at all (same for Retrologue and a few others).

This is an official advertisment image from the Steinberg website, where you can see Padshop on the screen. No one can tell me, that the guy in the picture can use Padshop without bending over (50 cm at least) :hihi: But seriously ... this is bad UI design and should be fixed as soon as possible :x

The Dynamic EQ mode in frequency is nice, but a lot of Cubase users will already own a dynamic EQ like TDR Nova or TB EQ4 (which are also resizable).

So yeah ... not sure if i should support them this time. I always found their update strategy a bit stupid. I mean, they are releasing a paid upgrade every year at the same time, no matter how many changes or fixes were made in that period of time :nutter:

How many years does a dongle last?
I assume if it dies I am out of luck?
Good idea to get a second dongle as a backup?

Yep. It's not a toy its a tool to produce music. I'd rather have quality of life improvements over whole new features in most cases.

A fair question I've wondered too. Mines been going for 7 years thus far. Keep my computer on 24/7 too.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

It boggles the mind how people can be so annoyed by a small plastic dongle. I'm sure there are more pertinent considerations when buying software such as resale policy.

And yet it is a big deal to quite a few people. Funny that. Why do you think it's so?

I built my last PC as a music workstations and had the dongle in mind -- set it up 2 years ago in the back of the machine barely think about it and never had an issue.

But I do indeed understand, hate DRM too.
Have you tried Vital?

So you bring your expensive DAW laptop, studio headphones, soundcard and all cables when you travel. But the tiny usb dongle is the problem? To me, it smells like BS to stop using Cubase. There are other reasons of course..
