After listening to the Arturia one I think completely differently. Sounds coming out of that thing I'd never expect from a DX7.revvy wrote: Sun Nov 08, 2020 10:20 am I learned keys on a home organ. Then synths came and blew my mind. Then DX7 came along and reminded me of organs again. No thanks.
If anything, nostalgia means I think more kindly of the DX than should.

I'm not trying to criticise the reality of the DX or how good the sounds are you can get from it, just saying that at the time I couldn't forgive it for its knobless membrane thing.rezoneight wrote: Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:52 pmAfter listening to the Arturia one I think completely differently. just gone off to listen to that (didn't know it) and the Gloria Jones (didn't know that either).
Man, I guess I'm not a Coil fan lol.
GJ version rocks though!
(Of course, I love SC too)

you might be, they dont really have a representative sound as such, very different stuff across the albums, from synth pop type songs to long assed noise drones and all kinds of glitchy lovelinessrevvy wrote: Mon Nov 09, 2020 3:37 pmjust gone off to listen to that (didn't know it) and the Gloria Jones (didn't know that either).

i like the other 2 big versions too, just have a preference to the dark, cold feeling of the coil version, given the lyrics.

So what was Weezer's excuse on their cover of "Africa" by Toto?BONES wrote: Sun Nov 08, 2020 10:12 am That's not me big-noting my abilities, it's down to the fact that I am doing it in 2020, with all the latest technology at my fingertips, so it's trivial for me to do a better job than the original artists and their producers.
Point being that just because someone has access to modern technology doesn't mean much. I think covers being "better" than the originals is pretty much a mixed bag. The Weezer Teal album is a pretty good example. Despite being modern none of the songs on that album are better than the originals they covered. They're not terrible. But they're covering major 80s hits (including Sweet Dreams) and none of it sounds better than the originals.
Back to Weezer....their cover of Rosanna is a great case of a new version being absolutely terrible compared to the original.

the saw/pulse knob is what's being modulated when you assign something to vco level. it's not a bug, any weirdness going is just because the knob is bipolar and 0 volume at the 12 o clock position.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Sat Nov 07, 2020 12:48 pmYeah, you are right. But it still seems to be a bug, because there is still no velocity response as such even after doing that. So it is most likely a bug unless the hardware behaved that way.c1c2 wrote: Sat Nov 07, 2020 8:48 am Just found out, that the velocity response is related to waveform selection.
If you chose anything else than 100% pulse or saw waveform makes a difference. Hm.
A bug? Intended?
e.g. to get a saw wave responding to velocity, you'd have the oscillator's saw/pulse knob centered (or a bit left of center) and assign velocity negatively.

Cool, I'll give it a try tonight and see what happens. It does seem weird that you can assign modulation to VCO level when it's not something you can control from the front panel.
