Steinberg Download Assistent killed my licence while I tried to upgrade it.4damind wrote: Wed Nov 11, 2020 5:06 pm I read a bit in the Steinberg Forum and also on Facebook.
The eLicense servers still seem to be overloaded. If I understand this correctly the old Cubase license is replaced with the new one. If the operation is aborted you don't have a valid license anymore (this seems to have happened to some users). Some write that the eLicense servers are in maintenance mode.
So I would rather wait with the update.

Ambisonics is VR. Apparently, Steinberg in their infinite wisdom decided that anything higher 6.0 is an absolute NO-NO for Cubase for over a decade at this point. "Only Nuendo is for Surround".pixel85 wrote: Wed Nov 11, 2020 5:46 pm Cubase easily work with surround and even ambisonics. Are you saying that anything above 5.1 is broken? I worked with ambisonics 1st order and so far everything works fine for VR and game audio
I've dipped my toe into surround, especially with New Audio Technology's Spatial Audio Designer (SAD). Cubase needs a "special setup" to even export in 7.1 -- which is, funny enough, a current day standard (for Blu-Ray even 7.1.2).
Talk about "Pro" again. Also... "meanwhile at the competition..."
And while we're at the topic of standards... I really hope Steinberg didn't lie on "customizing" with their new plugin "SuperVision" (a revival of their old EBU R-128 plugin, with added visualizers?! Hello there, LPX MultiMeter). To this day, you can not color code the EBU R-128 meter in the Mix Console -- something that annoyed me since Cubase 8... or was it implemented in C7.5 already? Time flies.

And now I cannot even log in to MySteinberg anymore.
I need a verification code, but I don't get the email containing it.
So I cannot even complain on their forum.
UPDATE: verification code arrived, I put in a support ticket.

Quite honestly - the upgrade glitches are happening with every upgrade for Wavelab, Cubase and Nuendo. It seems to be the worst for Cubase though. Steinberg servers never hold up during that time (first 48 hours).
I am surprised that people still try to "adapt/upgrade within hours" rather than relax, take a step back and wait it out. In fact, I ran into this myself with Cubase 9 (I just checked, even had a support conversation about this in December 2016) - I upgraded my license within the first 48 hours, only to be reverted back to 8.5 overnight due to... reasons unknown (I was told: server glitch), then one day later, I was back on track. I should have waited longer - like I currently do now.
BTW - a video on the "Download Manager" and the new hoop-jumping with "activation codes"... so Steinberg is also going the "triple check" if you really bought what you bought. Nice...
Also... Steinberg will have a "Feature Overview Hangout" on Youtube in 47 hours. But if you just want to watch "what's new" (and I must say, there is some good content in there still!), here are two playlists:
What's new in Cubase 11 (official videos for the Cubase 11 product page)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... HJpHSuj4CU
Walkthrough of the new Cubase 11 features (as presented by Greg Ondo, live stream host for Steinberg)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... jOyHgBPWw9
On a second note...
I also watched that Sonic Academy video just. So Steinberg is chasing Ableton Live.
The "Sampler Track" only needs a couple of updates to be just a 1:1 concept thing for resampling - although, Ableton users might confirm how close they are, or how far off (I'm not an Ableton user, but I'm intrigued at the Sampler Track now for sound design purposes). They also really push you to purchasing PadShop Pro, Halion and/or the just released "Backbone" with this, as this gives you a whole lot more extra options. Clever. I might actually finally upgrade my PadShop license (because: Granular Synthesis). Would be nice if I could forward that information from the Sampler track to either NI Kontakt or CWITech TX16Wx though. I mean... hey, I can dream.
"Squasher" is basically Xfer Audio OTT blended with iZotope Trash. I'm curious if I can load that in a sub-host within Cubase (Patchwork comes to mind, or any other modular subhost). If not, it's not like I don't have OTT and Trash2, or I can pull off a more-than-3 band version with the help of Nugen Audio SigMod.
The new MIDI features are definitely exciting. Pity that the Sonic Academy presenter didn't show off a lot of it. Like... repeating MIDI curves. Here I need to check in again with the official Steinberg videos. But other than that, this overhaul and the added MIDI editing features were long overdue (as in: since Cubase 6.5!).
As for the "leaked" MIDI Remote API - classic bait and switch IMO. They did the same with the "Video Engine in Cubase" which they removed with Cubase 8.5. Then they told us "will be addressed in the next paid upgrade" - only for them to take 4 years to give us "something" back. I don't think we'll see this API in Cubase 11 still, maybe not even C11.5
Then I dug into the Cubase 11 manual...
No AAC export (like, come on, Steinberg... what year is this?! 2010?!). You can only export in FLAC, OGG and MP3 still. This answers another one of my questions. (see English Cubase 11 manual page 1074)
We got video export (a h264 encoder!) with compressed audio (funny enough - mp4 specs are AAC audio!), but we got not export M4A/AAC. We got a completely overhauled (and actually quite cool) export mode, but still no export of M4A/AAC! I really don't get it, Steinberg -- why can the competition add this for free, yet you work with Fraunhofer (of all places!) and can't add it at all (only in Wavelab). So... frustrating...
(triple-facepalm doesn't even cut it anymore)
Left is still the question, if all logical CPU cores higher 8 (or even 12) are addressed on Windows.
Any AMD Ryzen Gen2 3000 series or Ryzen Gen3 5000 series users in here? Or anyone on Intel i9 10900K / i9 10940X (or higher)?

If a license activation could not be completed successfully or if the previous license appears to be missing, please be patient and wait until the initial peak of requests has decreased. Then use the 'Maintenance' button in the eLicenser Control Center that is installed as a separate application on your system. This should resume interrupted downloads and can recover apparently missing licenses. If the activation code is required in the eLicenser Control Center, please note that you should find it in your MySteinberg account.

That's disappointing. One of my biggest gripes with Cubase is how ancient it's remote control system seems. Either have to use certain hardware, or get limited to 8 quick controls. Look at how Studio One handles Remote Control. I map my hardware once, I map a plugin once, and the plugin is mapped forever. I just wish S1 offered the ability to combine controllers into a single surface. But Cubase is in the stone age compared to S1 in that regard.zvenx wrote: Wed Nov 11, 2020 5:52 pmhttps://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewto ... 7&t=201950loachm wrote: Wed Nov 11, 2020 5:48 pm ...that new midi remote system & api, that has been in that leaked beta manual on youtube, really excited me, but I can't find it among the new features. Note: I'm using S1 as an example of a DAW that does this well, I'm primarily using Reaper with the CSI extension these days as my DAW+controller combo. Reaper+CSI is way more powerful, but takes more effort in setting up.

Glad they finally updated their Eucon support, but kind of a bummer that they didn't include that in 10.5 or sooner. Hoping to hear more about what aspects of integration were improved (hope it's more than just "we fixed the visibility being out of sync issue").

Meh, I wait for summer and see if it will be 50% and wait for until 11.5 is released. It's getting harder and harder to motivate users to upgrade. I updated 9.5 to 10.5 (purchased during summer for 50% and waited till november)and it wasn't worth the update and it screwed my workflow because they had changed it.

I don't get the big deal with the sampler track being able to slice. You can already do that and just drop your slices into Groove Agent SE. If they had added effects per slice or perhaps the option of individual outs it might have been a bit more interesting. As it is I don't see it as a massively improved feature versus the Groove Agent workflow. The export to instrument feature may prove useful though.
The addition of the dynamic EQ looks cool though. With the sidechain addition it would be able to work like the Trackspacer VST, or am I wrong on that...?
The midi features are a nice touch for a moron like me who can't play the piano...
