Live 11 - Many bitter comments on their Facebook

So many bitter comments on their facebook. It is somewhat cruel of them to put middle finger to those who were genuine enough to rather buy license instead of keep using it free of charge to support company as we know many people and companies are having hard time from pandemic. But their motivation has been savagely buried and those who kept using it free of charge got rewarded.
Do you think bad customer communication is happening there?
*Disclaimer - I did not buy license in this period

I don't get it. What happened?
Not that I'm surprised that there's a shit storm again. Seems to be the norm these days really. Life is so cruel in the first world.

Well, there might be 3 reasons for that:
1) Some bought 10 recently with that 90 days trial and they're feeling "baited"
2) Some bought 10 1-2 years ago thinking it'll last them 2-3 more years like 9 did
3) Some of them are Bitwig users

Well, I just took a look at their FB, and, it seems like I wrote above. People complaining about a upgrade they don't have to buy. With the occasional "Musicians are so poor during Covid, and you release an upgrade???". Do those people think DAW companies are doing any better? Seems like common sense is totally lost these days.

There are still good people who are genuinely supportive than you may think and bought Live while quarantine instead of acting like entitled kid and being like scumbag using full license long period of time.

Maybe I am wrong but I really doubt DAW companies are doing bad these days. Yes a lot of people lost there job but all those people that doesn't go to restaurant, bar, doesn't travel and still work (like me) spend there money on stuff they can do at home ....cause it's the only thing we can do ! Lot of business are doing better than ever....
Making music alone at home on your computer is pretty much what gouvernement ask us to do here...
I bought 10 during the 90 days trial and I don't feel baited... I'am very happy with 10 ....even though Ill probably buy 11 anyway ....but that's just luxury...

I can think of so many other things to get angry about.. environmental destruction, totalitarian governments, poverty, climate change, racism, bigotry... Seems kind of ridiculous to get angry about a bloody software upgrade. Just don't buy it ffs...

For me I bought the upgrade (9->10) in Aug-2018. At that time, I remembered there was a discussion saying that buying live 10 suite brand new or upgrading from 9 -> 10 (Assume both in discount period) will be a better deal than brand new Bitwig or Pay $1xx per year. You can do the math if the following assumption is true : They assumed that the life span of Live 10 is around 4 yrs. So it makes sense to invest on Live is better than Bitwig in terms of $.
Do you guys remember live 9.5 ? Where is 10.5 ?

Any social media feedback is filtered through the fact that the people using social media a lot of often disgruntled in general.
I can tell you that some of the Ableton user groups are filled with an increasing number of younger musicians / producers with very little experience who would probably be better served with something like FL Studio (that's NOT a criticism of FL Studio - it just does more of the basics at a better price point). The buy-in for home music production is quite low now and there's a lot of entitlement.
I feel bad, however, because a lot of these people are in fact from developing countries and just don't tons of money to spend and need to be very wise about any purchase. I wish there were a way for Ableton to provide a discount for them. I also think Live's bundles need an update - You need to purchase Suite to get the best of the built-ins, but a lot of producers don't need orchestral samples, etc.
As far as the new version, people have been asking for MPE, comping, etc. - these are non-trivial, complex features (especially MPE) that are very important for a small group of people, but not important at all for many young producers (most can't afford an MPE controller, etc.). It would have probably been very complicated, but Live might have been better served if those features were only enabled in a version like Suite, etc., which might have enticed Standard users to upgrade, but left more financially-challenged customers with another free update to 10 with some of the other useful features.
There's also a remarkable lack of understanding about what some of the features do (trust me, I've seen the questions - "How I make beats"). For example, a number of people who've obviously never tried to reproduce the nuances of real drums don't seem to grasp the use of the random features ("I want the software to play the notes I tell it" does not preclude adding a little variation to the volume of your maracas). Those who use Live for live sets, etc., are going to be really happy with some of the new clip and scene following features also.
None of these features make a lot of sense to the 9 out of 10 social media junkies who think they are the going to produce a hit.
I'm a happy customer but I do feel a lot of what comes in Suite is kinda forced on producers because there's such a big gap between that and Standard.
(BTW - true story - I met a young guy in a studio who was interning; he had just gotten Live and was learning to produce hip-hop. I asked him what he was using for an 808 and he asked what that was. He's probably not paying for MPE either, though he may actually know what comping is!)

I really don't get people thinking in those cathegories about music-making software, unless they're pros who make a living from music. But even then, buying cheapest is rarely a good strategy - I'd rather pay 2x more and be happy and inspired, rather than save money and curse every 5 minutes...cowby wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 1:42 amSo it makes sense to invest on Live is better than Bitwig in terms of $.
