But even then, buying cheapest is rarely a good strategy - I'd rather pay 2x more and be happy and inspired, rather than save money and curse every 5 minutes...cowby wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 1:42 amSo it makes sense to invest on Live is better than Bitwig in terms of $.

I bet the same people don't go to closing store to complain that they bought a jacket with good discount, and now there is a new collectionChapelle wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 1:04 am I guess the reason is the 30% off sale at the beginning of the pandemic. Some users probably thought that Ableton is trying to support the creative community in these hard times. And now they are disappointed because Ableton was probably fully aware that there will be a paid upgrade within a year. And, to them, it now looks like Ableton doesn't really care about the financial situation of musicians at all.
I don't really get what the complaints are about either, though.

What is the point in announcing 11 update now? It's says will be released during the first quarter of 2021 (which means March) So 4 months away! What is the point? It's like advertising a Xmas pageant in September.

Point is to collect update money from excited upcoming beta testers and give unimpressed ones something to feel excited about.

What do you mean by the "world"? I'm talking about specific company

But they don't. If you pre-order, money isn't drawn from your account until it's released.Passing Bye wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 4:13 am Point is to collect update money from excited upcoming beta testers and give unimpressed ones something to feel excited about.

In some ways it's out already. Beta is pretty stable (for Ableton Live...).Kinh wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 4:05 amWhat is the point in announcing 11 update now? There is some sort of grace period though as I recently went from 10 standard to suite and ableton have emailed to say they have provided me a 11 suite licence free due to buying this.

Because of the transition from closed beta to public beta, they can't start a public beta for everyone in secret.Kinh wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 4:05 am What is the point in announcing 11 update now? They have to tell people and have to allow the closed beta testers to release their videos and articles.

I've railed on Ableton's forums for 15 years, I've dogged them for all kinds of things that I think are missing or inadequate about Live. I've mostly switched to Bitwig and probably Logic, but I still do not think this is a bad upgrade at all, it's exactly what people have been asking for, for years. Pretty much every improvement is one people have requested forever: MPE, live tempo matching, comping, improvements to Follow Actions etc. etc. There is absolutely zero reason to complain if you're a Live user.
This upgrade IMO is miles above v10, which added mostly cool things that aren't specifically DAW improvements. Personally I like additions to a DAW that aren't just cool things a plug in can provide. The upgrade isn't brutally expensive this time either, I'm thinking of doing it just to stay current, even though I probably won't go back to it full time.

Yes, I also use Bitwig and Live and this update is about the cost of a Bitwig update and gets you a lot of stuff, maybe even a full years worth of Bigwig updates....The Live 10 update however cost about the same as buying Bitwig and didn't do much for me!
I bought the LIVE 10 update in the sale ands it wasn't that long ago, but I don't feel ripped off, it was a good sale and I paid what I think the update was worth to me...I am happy to pay again for the 11 update as it is worth it and not expensive (especially with the 20% off) for what you get.
MPE, comping, follow Actions for scenes, Midi scales, chance actions, macro actions, tempo follow, linked and multiple track editing etc. are more than enough for a major update, but you are also getting 5 very interesting new rack devices including what looks to be a very good (and much needed) reverb, 6 sound packs (several from spitfire audio) and updates and improvements to the existing sounds and devices. Some nice updates for PUSH users as well, including Polyphonic aftertouch support (which I am hoping will also apply top my Novation Pro Mk3)

Yup- I have never had a Facebook or Twitter account, never will...I have 2 teenage daughters, I can get all the criticism I need at home.Kongru wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 9:53 am It makes me feel bad for the developers if they read those comments, I feel like society in general is more willing to be negative these days.
