(edit) oh you mean not Windows 7 or 8.1... I assumed you meant no mac. .. my bad

Yeah, sorry, was unclear there.
They already made later versions of Dashboard W10 only out of the blue and Studio & Connect too...
W8.1 is running flawless here for ages and I'd like to avoid the mess of W10 as long as possible.
Well, there are enough other MPE capable tools in the meantime thankfully... :-)

Cheers,

Tom

It looks great and is really powerful on paper :)
The great thing is : a lot of excellent presets, mpe and normal. ( it seams that every mpe presets are "convert " in classic presets. )
Slide is convert to Mod Wheel ( and press to aftertouch).
Thanks Whywhy!

Feature wise close to Arturia Pigments? Which is 50% off at the moment.

Different spec.
One have more osc/source, the other have an arpegiator....
The great thing about Equator 2 is the possibility to modulate in reel time, the granular sample index.( i didn't see that feature a lot ) And you could do your own sample set too.( perhaps, some sample sequencing, wave seq are possible )

From what I can tell, the upgrade is the same whether you own the Full Monty, the player version or one of the other Roli/FXPansion synths. In other words: if you've bought Equator or have one of the bigger keyboards that comes with it, you've got the same price. Errrm, OK.

I had hoped as a Rise owner it would be a free update.

Also "Add multisamples in SFZ format. There’s literally no end to the sound combinations you can dream up and explore." As long as it's in SFZ format. Sigh.

Or does that only apply to multi-samples? Can you simply import single .wav files..like every other sample player?

Well, I wasn't expecting it to be free, but, yeah, $100 is a little steep for an upgrade.

Will hang tight and wait for the reviews/videos.

The email states that the upgrade from Equator Player is $99. No mention of the upgrade price for people who have already upgraded from Equator Player to Equator full. When I log into my Roli account I don't see any additional discount for already owning Equator full.

If that's the actual policy, it's ridiculous and blunts my enthusiasm for upgrading anytime soon.

Angus and himalaya, did you boys have a hand in Equator 2? Any insights?

That seems to be the case.
To upgrade you must be a ROLI creator with either Equator1, Strobe2, Cypher2 or ROLI Studio (free with all ROLI hardware) and be logged into your account.

I own all of the above, but only one upgrade price? No thanks Roli ... come on, you can do better than that!

Post

i have equator (1), and yes the same upgrade price as for roli studio, etc.
i am repeating what others already are saying. €90, is steep.

for someone who is into sounddesign, even equator works great (with MPE).

this version is quite nice, indeed some overlap with pigments, and even biotek 2 in a way. or MSoundFactory (if it gets it granulur module..).

EDIT: indeed, no demo's... for roli stuff.. a pity.. perhaps an e-mail to sales...

EDIT: i have of course also roli studio (i have seabord block + 2 lightpad M blocks), bought cypher 2 & equator in sale.
these kind of things you see also with other brands... nice for who only owns roli studio, less nice for owns more..

can it load equator 1 presets? i don't think so... (my own presets, i mean, of course.)

Post

@chamomile shark,: yes, you can easily import sample by drag and drop. Same for wt.
And Equator 1 presets load in version 2.
I don't know if Angus did the software/concept part but I can see into the factory content Electric Himalaya made the majority of the content and like habitually, it sound awesome: first class sound designer!

Doing it as SFZ means they can delegate the job of mapping samples to external tools - Equator 2 I guess just reads the file and distributes the samples on load. I imagine it avoids the need to have their own UI for mapping samples.

It makes it a bit of a faff if you don't have a sampler that will build SFZs to hand but better than a kick in the head. I haven't tested this (so it might not play nice with all the SFZ mapping commands) as I'm not overly keen on splashing out 80 quid on the upgrade when I have other MPE synths to use with the Rise. I'll wait for a sale or for them to rethink the upgrade policy.

Yup, no demo and expensive upgrade, I will wait and see...

As others have said you can import single .wavs - it's only for multi samples it needs to be SFZ. I'm happy with just single .wav import as I use my own field recordings/ one shot samples.
