I think only the Gaia is sampled, the SH 201 is not and quit overlook, it creates some great plastic supersaw sounds! Picked one up cheap

One of them is sampled for sure. I remember video showing on oscilloscope how awfully the wave is looped. It sounds like oldschool Tracker methods of sampling to save every bit on FDDdocbot wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 6:51 pmchk071 wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 12:27 pm I think, in the SH-201 and Gaia, the supersaw was sampled. Yes, it was me who made this comparison. Only the Gaia is sampled, the SH 201 is not, that has a proper supersaw.pixel85 wrote: Thu Nov 12, 2020 8:28 pm One of them is sampled for sure. Non sampled supersaws
-jp 8000 ( obviously)
-sh 201
Sampled supersaw
-gaia
Supernatural synth engine sampled supersaw
-integra
-jupiter 80
-jdxa
The zen core supersaw is also sampled
etc..
it's pretty damn easy to know if it's sample or not
Record without any effects and modulation , record again ( same sequence)
Line up the recording in your daw ( sample accurate starting point )
Play both files while one is inverted , if they cancel each other out means both files are identical , a dsp generated supersaw will always have slight differences .

But not as easy to spot in a finished mix, right? I don't think people are buying synths to watch screenshots of the waveforms.

On KVR? people are buying... making music with them? that's another story... so don't be surprised if someone prove you wrongstarflakeprj wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:36 pm I don't think people are buying synths to watch screenshots of the waveforms.
If we have some brave waveform voayers in here, don't be shy, there's no judgments.

Sure , that's true , tbh I don't really care about supersaws but I was kinda bummed that it was sample based and not generated .starflakeprj wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:36 pm But not as easy to spot in a finished mix, right? I am always interested if a company holds up to the claims it makes in it's promo's
Sure I make music and sounddesign is an important aspect of it .
It's not that I glare at a spectrum analyzer with the sole purpose of debunking claims , it just happens

If anything, I'm actually learning a lot about sound in general reading the posts about how synths behave, sound and so on. I can understand though people getting disappointed when the developer claims something they can't uphold.gentleclockdivider wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 10:27 pmSure , that's true , tbh I don't really care about supersaws but I was kinda bummed that it was sample based and not generated .starflakeprj wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:36 pm But not as easy to spot in a finished mix, right? Myself I'm quite happy with a software synth that has the look and feel of the original hardware synth, as long as it doesn't sound too far off, to my ears. For instance, I know that most, at least of the earlier ones, emulations in the V-Collection from Arturia don't sound quite like the originals. But the look and fell makes up for it pretty much, and sonically they sound really good for what they are, but maybe not 100% authentic

Yeah, thanks, I hadn't upgraded for 5 years (long time to be me), so I started to build a new rig in July this year, and bought everything except the graphics card, which I ordered in the beginning of October, and finally received this Tuesdaychk071 wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 10:40 pm @starflakeprj: Offtopic, but, you have a real killer PC there.![]()

You can easily hear when complex wave is looped in cheap way like in Gaia. Although some music genres use it as the genre specific sound (old school rave/hardcore for example). Tracker Music is another example.starflakeprj wrote: Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:36 pm But not as easy to spot in a finished mix, right? SuperSaw likeany complex wave benefit from being a generated wave. Short loop of SuperSaw like in Gaia sounds like a total crap.
