does cubase 11 pro run well on Mac Pro 5,1? i'm still on my 2010 12 core westmere mac.

I wouldn't expect a really stellar peformance (Cubase 5 wasn't on my 4,1 MacPro) but it looks like the minimum requirements are met. Is there a trial version yet?
Depends on your use case, I run a wholly virtual setup with a lot of sample instruments, drum kits with long cymbals tails and so forth.

You can download Elements 11 with Steinberg's Download Manager, that installs the 'Elements/Ai/Le' version.

Steinberg is still borked -- nothing but errors trying to access the LCC servers, now cubase won't load.

Guess I'll wait till tomorrow see if they got it together.

Edit: gtg now, just kept trying it finally took.
Have you tried Vital?

I'm excited the update updated the HiDPI option, but I also heard it's not working well with all plugin. I guess this is one of those 1 step forward, half step back bugs.

Okay, let me rephrase:
Compyfox wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 10:18 pm Can anyone confirm, that a "vanilla" install of Cubase 11 leads to an error message, that you can't install it on Windows 10 due to a missing runtime?

I've read about this over on GS.

They may want to make sure they have this installed.

I'd say just try it yourself. Anyone can download Cubase 11 and install it, you just can't run it without a license.

Hmmmmm...

My understand is that hdpi allows Cubendo to respond to the Hdpi size set in Windows Display. So that if you say set HDPI as 200% it will now enlarge Cubendo 200%. (to use on larger 4K screens etc)
Is there an option to allow plugins that don't have resizing to fudge it? (edit: yes there is)

That is I am not sure his issues are HDPI issues.
Other improvements in Cubase 11, not looked at in other videos in this series include variable HDPI scaling in Windows and auto scale for plugins that don't have HDPI scaling. Other windows have also been updated for HDPI support in Cubase.

Well, Greg is only explaining it and not showing it. The issues the other guy showed in his video are quite "typical" for a bad high-DPI implementation, i.e. grid lines getting uneven, plugins getting crazy, GUI getting decoupled from plugin UI logic, etc. It's great there's an option to NOT scale the non DPI-aware plugins, but that's nothing exceptional - that's the least that is expected from a modern DAW. Bitwig, Live and S1 have had this for years.

When he's talking about resizing tracks: It's absolutely normal and expected behaviour. There's nothing 'between'. I don't know why he would like to have size where half of the icons is cropped. It's more logical to resize to 'grid' which is one line of text or icons.
I suppose it's his first Cubase ever or he's just angry and he's looking for problem even when there's none.

Opening smaller and smaller plugin windows is funny tho :D

I will say this never was an issue for Windows Hdpi beta testers.

I don't have syntroniks or whatever it is called, but certainly I know MixBox and Samplitank behave fine on my Windows system with High HDPI enabled.

I'm not talking about this particular "issue" as I also thought this was normal. The others are not, though.

Can YOU try how it works at say 125% scaling? Post a picture or videos?

I didn't upgrade to C11 ;) For me it's useless update. Also, I'm on 1080p - scaling is not an issue for me and I'm soooo happy about it :D

What is ridiculous (read "sad") is Cubase forum full of people saying high-DPI support "doesn't work", because previously they had Windows set to 125% but Cubase would be 100% and now it's at 125%. That's the WHOLE F**KING POINT of proper high-DPI support! I wonder if beta testers were as clueless?! LOL :D
